SALUT FROM PRINCIPAL HOLDEN

Dear Normandale Families,

France and French had a moment at the Holden household this summer. In June, Mme. West, Mme. Werness and I chaperoned 22 fifth graders on Normandale’s annual Voyage en France trip. I enjoyed exploring Bordeaux and speaking French 24/7. But, what was most rewarding was seeing and hearing Normandale’s fifth graders use their French to navigate school and home life in Bordeaux!

Most recently the Paris Olympics have captured my attention. I love watching the traditional olympic sports like track and field, but I also enjoy watching the newer additions like skateboarding and mountain biking. Regardless of which athlete wins or loses, I appreciate their pursuit of excellence. Normandale staff and I are not Olympic athletes, but we will work hard this school year to make sure your student has many memorable French moments!

LUNCH UPDATES

Recess comes before lunch? Yes, you heard that right! When students play FIRST they have bigger appetites, experience a more pleasant lunchroom atmosphere and transition more quickly back into learning. We are thrilled to bring this change in schedule to Normandale this fall! Breakfast and lunch menus are linked at the bottom of this newsletter.

Students will need to enter their ID number when getting school lunch or breakfast. We are asking parents to help their student learn their ID number and how to enter it on the keypad before the 1st day of school. Teachers will have handouts for each student with their personal ID number and a picture of the keypad at Connect and Assess conferences.

While all students will receive one free breakfast and one free lunch again this school year, all families are still encouraged to complete the Application for Educational Benefits. Your student may qualify for additional benefits such as reduced transportation or test fees, and the application may help the school qualify for education funds. The application can be found HERE.

EDINA EDUCATION FUND

The Edina Education Fund is an independent non-profit organization dedicated to the continued academic excellence of the Edina Public Schools.

The Ed Fund secures private, supplemental funding to support valuable education experiences and innovative projects in the Edina Public Schools. Funds raised augment school system revenues that are provided by taxes, state aid, and other parent and student led fundraising efforts. The Ed Fund is necessary to help ensure the caliber of educational programs we have come to expect of the Edina Public Schools. Your support means greater academic opportunities for all students, today and into the future.

We are fortunate to be part of the Edina community that has a strong, valued and well-respected school system. However, to protect and enhance the value of our homes and property and the quality of life we enjoy, we must further invest in our public school system. Edina Education Fund contributes to the development and financial support of district-wide programs within Literacy, STEAM and Mental Health/Wellness Services for all students and staff.
