Tau Chapter Welcomes Rick Warren '78 as Guest Speaker

Rick Warren was featured as the Tau Chapter's alum guest speaker in late March. Rick founded Warren Wildlife Gallery in Austin, which houses a collection of more than 500 mammals and 900 exotic birds he has harvested in recent years.

"I've been to all the huntable countries in the world, but I was born too late to hunt in India or China," Rick said. "I've taken 171 different types of animals from Africa—22 sheep worldwide and 20 goats worldwide."

He has shot 29 native North American game animals, earning him 18 entries in the Boone & Crockett record book.

Growing up, he acquired his love for hunting from his family's quail hunts and his enjoyment of the outdoors from scouting. He's a frequent donor to Boy Scouts of America-Capitol Area Council and matches others' donations to rebuild the shooting sports range at their summer camp at Lost Pines, near Bastrop.

Warren is president-elect of the Dallas Safari Club and serves on the boards of the Outdoor Tomorrow Foundation (which provides outdoor education to young people in 48 states) and the Boone & Crockett Club.

He's a life member of the Coastal Conservation Association, Wild Sheep Society, Texas Bighorn Society, Grand Slam Club/Ovis, Safari Club International, and National Rifle Association.

Warren was honored as Tau Man of the Year in 2012 and won the Frank Erwin Award in 1995 and 2010. He is a former TKSEF board president and currently serves as an officer.
