The Latest
We're thrilled to share that Erie Day School has taken a major step toward becoming a recognized historic landmark! Our formal application was approved by the City of Erie Historic Review Commission in September, and we’re now awaiting votes from City Planning and City Council. Once finalized, EDS will officially be recognized with a historic landmark status and receive a marker to cement our legacy.
In even bigger news, the State of Pennsylvania will re-open its historic designations in 2025, and we plan to submit an application next summer to further expand our status.

The Students
Last month, Erie Day School proudly inducted new members into the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS), recognizing students who have demonstrated exceptional scholarship, leadership, service, character, and citizenship. NJHS is one of the nation’s premier organizations that honors middle school students for their outstanding achievements both in and out of the classroom. Being selected for membership is a significant honor, reflecting not only a commitment to academic excellence but also a dedication to making a positive impact on the school and the wider community. Congratulations to our newest NJHS members for exemplifying the values that make Erie Day School proud!

The Campus
At Erie Day School, we’re currently surrounded by the vibrant colors of fall as the leaves on our beautiful campus change. However, with the changing season, some trees that have succumbed to disease or age can pose safety risks due to falling limbs or the potential to come down completely. Recently, EDS took preventive steps to ensure the safety of our community by removing several trees that were no longer healthy. Next time you’re on campus, take a stroll and see if you can spot which tall friends have gone missing from our tree family!

The Teachers
We are proud to recognize Mrs. Janis Filbeck, our dedicated Middle School English educator, for her pivotal role in introducing the Junior Achievement (JA) program to Erie Day School! Thanks to her initiative, our students now benefit from this renowned program, which prepares young people for success in work and life by teaching them about entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and career readiness.
Junior Achievement is a global nonprofit organization, and EDS is now partnered with JA of Western Pennsylvania. Through engaging, hands-on activities, JA empowers students to build skills that will serve them throughout their lives. Mrs. Filbeck’s passion for student growth, both academically and personally, is evident in her commitment to bringing this valuable program to our lower and middle schools.
We are grateful to Mrs. Filbeck for opening the door to these new opportunities at EDS, ensuring that our students are not just prepared for the classroom, but for life beyond it as well.
