H-E-B June Checkstand Donation Campaign Wrap-Up

H-E-B customers donated $375,000 to the Summer at the Library check stand donation campaign benefitting summer programming at Texas libraries. We appreciate everyone who contributed and are excited about the impact this will have!

Executive Board Candidate Applications Open Through July 24 

The TLA Nominating Committee is seeking online applications for the 2025 Executive Board election.


For the 2025 TLA Executive Board election cycle, the Nominating Committee will recommend four (4) candidates (two for each open position) to the current Executive Board to stand for election by the membership in 2025.


  • President-Elect (School Library), 1 year term, automatic progression to TLA President
  • Representative at Large (School Library), 3-year term


Candidacy is open to any TLA member in good standing (current 2024 membership) who resides in Texas.


Please review the Candidate Selection Criteria and apply by completing the online form by July 24.

TLA at ALA

TLA hosted a reception for Texas librarians attending the ALA Conference in San Diego. It was a beautiful evening to connect with friends. Special thanks to H-E-B Read 3 for sponsoring the event!

BCRT Award Extension

The BCRT/Ashley Bryan Award Committee has extended submissions for the Ashley Bryan Award nominations through July 26. Please nominate an author and provide justification for your nomination. For more information on the Award Criteria and to nominate an author, visit the BCRT webpage.

Disaster Relief Fund

If your library has been damaged by Hurricane Beryl, you can apply for grants between $1,500 and $5,000. Grants can be used for technology, facility repair, collections, furnishings, or other needs related to storm damage. Academic, public, school, and special libraries are eligible to receive assistance. Apply for a Disaster Relief Grant here.

Congratulations to the TALL Texans Class of 2024! The Class of 2024 was selected from a pool of dynamic Texas library leaders to study leadership principles and practices this November in Austin, Texas. Learn more about the newest TALL Texans class here.

Customer Service Education Program

TLA is proud to present a comprehensive four-part series designed to enhance the customer service skills of frontline library staff. This virtual series, "Frontline Fundamentals: Enhancing Customer Service Skills,” will occur in October. It aims to equip library workers with essential skills to serve their communities and thrive in their roles effectively. Learn more and register here.

Martha Wong Scholarship presented by the Texas Library and Archives Foundation

The Texas Library and Archives Foundation has announced the Martha Wong Scholarship. This new $2,000 award encourages Texans to pursue a degree from a Texas library/information science graduate program or school librarian certification program. Dr. Martha Wong, Chair of TSLAC, generously funded this scholarship.


Applications must be submitted to the Foundation via email by midnight on August 24, 2024.

TLA District Fall Meetings

All upcoming district meeting dates are now available! The annual fall meetings allow local librarians, paraprofessionals, and trustees from all types of libraries to meet, network, and set a foundation for collaborative efforts. Registration for all District Meetings will open August 1st.
