Snowbasin Ski Team Members, Alumni & Friends,

I am thrilled to share some exciting updates and enhancements to our programs designed to provide our athletes with the best possible training environment and opportunities for growth. Here’s what’s new for the upcoming season:

Development Program Enhancements:

We are expanding our Development Program to offer Devo Plus and Devo sessions on both Saturdays and Sundays. This added flexibility will ensure that our members can find a schedule that works best for them, allowing athletes to maximize their potential.

Freeride Program Updates:

Our Freeride Program will continue to offer the popular one-day option for our Intro to Freeride, exposing athletes to the exhilarating world of freeride skiing. Additionally, we are excited to announce an internal team freeride competition this year. This event will be a great introduction to competition for our Intro to Freeride participants, as well as for our Devo Plus and AMR members.

AMR (All Mountain Ripper) Program:

The AMR Program is an enhancement of our YSL program, providing athletes with broader opportunities in both Alpine and Freeride disciplines. This program serves as a transitional phase for athletes as they advance to the specialization of our Alpine or Freeride programs. We welcome graduates of our Devo program recommended by their coaches. Older AMR athletes will benefit from more time on snow, Wednesday training opportunities with the South Series athletes and a race plan that will transition them to a full time South Series schedule with a couple of South Series race starts this season or our Intro to Freeride Program.

Alpine Program Improvements:

We have focused on expanding our training venues for the Alpine Program. Thanks to the extended support from Snowbasin Resort, we will now have additional training space and time, including early season training on Bullwinkle and early morning sessions on Wildcat Bowl. These sessions will complement our existing Snowbasin training spaces on Willow and Showboat in addition to our access with Nordic Valley, Powder Mountain, and the UOP.

These improvements, built out during the off-season, are designed to enhance the training and development of all our athletes. We are excited to implement these changes and continually look for new ways to provide the best training environment possible.

We look forward to a fantastic season ahead!

Best regards,

Troy D. Price

What are YOU doing this summer?

Here's a quick, general overview of how to train for skiing in the summer:

  • Boost muscle power. Strengthen the areas that get worked the most: your quads, glutes, hamstrings and hips.
  • Focus on balance. Work your core and the muscles around your hips, which in turn helps provide stability to injury-prone areas such as the knees.
  • Build endurance. Condition your body so you can easily ski run after run without packing it in before you're ready.
  • Bump up your cardio. Complement this exercise plan with cardio activity such as running, mountain biking, rock climbing or skateboarding to get your lungs and heart pumping and to develop a well-rounded, versatile athleticism.

These added strength, agility and stamina activities will help immensely as you pursue your goals during the winter months. Don't forget to tag us @snowbasinskiteam in your adventures. #SnowbasinSkiTeam #SummerAdventures

Kids Up on The Mountain

Ski Utah wants all of Utah's 4th, 5th, and 6th graders to participate in the great outdoors, but more importantly, they want them to learn and develop excellent skiing or snowboarding skills.

We couldn't agree more! So we are making you aware of this particularly special Utah resort lift ticket deal. For our athletes, it does not replace the Snowbasin Season Pass, but it does provide savings on lift tickets for alpine race days. Alpine parents, please review the Utah Passport program details in comparison to the IMD Calendar link to see what might save you $$$ for race lift tickets during the season.

Alpine/Freeride Combo Program

In the spirit of supporting multi-sport athletes, the Snowbasin Ski Team is unique in their program offering of an Alpine/Freeride Combo program option for 10-14 year old athletes. This program skis 4-6 days per week and logs miles of on & off piste runs, trains gates for their age appropriate competitive IMD series and hones their freeride fundamentals for local competitions. This is a fully invested program for an athlete looking to ski a season worth of days in both disciplines.

Ages: 10 - 14 years old (Birth years: 2014 - 2010; available for 2015 with Program Approval)

Devo

It's summertime, but we are so excited to welcome all our Devo families - new and returning! We are hard at work planning our upcoming season and encourage our parents to stay up to date through our TeamSnap communications and emails. We will try our best to keep it simple and to the point.

As mentioned above, we are planning for a couple of Fitness Socials for our athletes and families in early fall. These are a great opportunity to meet other Devo athletes and some of our coaches. We would encourage everyone to try their best to be there, it will be a ton of fun!

Another key season milestone for new and returning families will be our Parent Orientation Meeting in October. During this meeting we will outline our program calendar, activities and races, program expectations and family/athlete responsibilities. It's also a time for parents to ask questions that have been top of mind but not yet addressed. We have restructured Devo for this season as Troy indicated in his introductory remarks. We would love to have all our parents present to give us the opportunity to share these positive changes and how they affect all our athletes for the upcoming '24/'25 season.

Finally, we are closing in on full enrollment across our Devo Mini, Devo, and Devo + programs. If you've not already registered, please do so at your earliest convenience to avoid our waiting list. And if you have friends or family that have voiced an interest in our program, please have them contact TJ Shaughnessy 630-772-8344 (devo@snowbasinskiteam.org) and he will gladly help them get a better understanding of program goals and fit.

Volunteer Opportunities

At SSEF events and races, we rely on a dedicated team of volunteers to ensure the smooth running of the event. There is a range of certified and non-certified positions available, both for skiing and non-skiing enthusiasts. Whether you’re an expert skier or prefer to help behind the scenes, there’s a role for everyone.

NON-SNOWBASIN Ski Team Volunteers: Receive a lift ticket for the day they work, as well as another lift ticket at the end of a full day of work. The lift ticket received after a full day of work for events held prior to March can be redeemed for the 2024-25 seasonal year. For March race workers, the lift ticket is redeemable for either the current season or the 2025-26 seasonal year.

What are Safe Sport MAAPPs?

Q: What does “MAAPP” stand for and what is it’s purpose?

A: “MAAPP” stands for Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policies. It’s purpose is of course to prevent abuse and misconduct, doing so in a proactive approach by outlining limits for one-on-one adult/minor interactions and standards for training and sport settings.
