2024 Lodi Community Foundation Grant

The Lodi Community Foundation (LCF) is committing over $10,000 for the 2024 grant program! The Request for Proposals will open in September.

Lodi Community Foundation is pleased to offer this grant opportunity as it is aligned with the LCF's passion to build a stronger community through leveraging its own resources. The LCF Grants Program is funded from its Field of Interest Fund designed to support special projects, programs and/or initiatives serving residents in our community.

Lodi Community Foundation (LCF) recognizes that Lodi and its surrounding areas are a community with diverse and ever-changing needs. To further LCF's mission to build a stronger community through leveraging its own resources for strategically focused grant-making, in 2023 the LCF Board allocated $10,000 to the LCF Grants Program from its Field of Interest Fund. This year the amount is increasing to more than $10,000 to support special projects, programs and/or initiatives serving residents in our community. Follow us on social as we announce more information and open the RFP to nonprofits serving the Lodi area.

"Granting to a community is an investment in its future, fostering growth, resilience, and a shared sense of purpose that benefits everyone." John Ledbetter

BIG IDEAS in Workforce Development

Our partnering agency, San Joaquin Community Foundation (SJCF), is currently requesting Request for Proposals for a grant. The Big Ideas grant is an open and competitive process. All organizations (nonprofits, public agencies and/or private companies) operating and serving San Joaquin County are eligible to apply.

We encourage Lodi applicants to submit their RFP demonstrating how their proposal idea will create and/or support living wage jobs that attract and retain local talent. Read the entire grant description by visiting the Big Ideas webpage on the SJCF website. Deadline is September 6, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. PST.

Building a dream team isn't just about hiring the best; it's about creating an environment where the best can thrive and grow, turning a great workforce into an unstoppable force.

SUCCESSES

PHILANTHROPY SUMMIT 2024

In April we attended the Community Philanthropy Summit and enjoyed the company of many Lodians that share our goal to continually strengthen and build the future of our community. This year we welcomed Mrs. Jean Irwin Hatfield and Professor James E. Hetrick, guest speakers that presented on the topic 'The Humanity in Artificial Intelligence (AI)'.

In addition to listening to the speakers, we enjoyed a continental breakfast, catered lunch, and the incredible conversation with others. It was a joy to see so many people share their stories, learn from one another, and enjoy a half day of creating and rekindling connections.

The summit ended on a high as the National Nonprofit Awards were presented to incredible community members that make a difference in their generosity of time, money and passion.

FUND HIGHLIGHT

Joyce Clarkson-Harmon Endowment Fund

The Joyce Clarkson-Harmon Endowment Fund directly benefits every citizen of, and visitor to Lodi by ensuring the existence of healthy trees throughout the city.

By donating to this fund through the Lodi Community Foundation, monies are then used by Tree Lodi, a community based non-profit organization created to promote and advocate for the planting, maintenance and preservation of Lodi's urban forest through education, stewardship and community involvement.

Trees provide immense value to communities by enhancing environmental quality, promoting health, and fostering social cohesion. They improve air quality by absorbing pollutants and releasing oxygen, help regulate urban temperatures through shading, and reduce stormwater runoff, mitigating flooding and erosion.

Trees also contribute to physical and mental well-being, encouraging outdoor activities and offering serene green spaces that reduce stress. Economically, they boost property values and lower energy costs, while aesthetically enhancing streetscapes to attract businesses and tourism. Overall, trees are essential for creating sustainable, vibrant, and healthy communities.

You can be a part of this incredible organization's goals by donating to the Joyce Clarkson-Harmon Endowment Fund or by participating in their upcoming annual event on Arbor Day Celebration at Lodi Lake on October 12, 2024.

Of course, the fastest and easiest way to donate is via our Lodi Community Foundation donation portal. Donations that can be made 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We also encourage a visit to the Lodi Tree website. You can also find, follow, and support them online via Facebook! They would be thrilled for the new followers!

Without the public’s trust, everything we do to advance our collective missions becomes harder, if not impossible. For each of the last five years, Independent Sector has partnered with Edelman Data and Intelligence to survey the American public, exploring the nuances of trust in American nonprofit and philanthropic organizations.

These are the largest nationally representative surveys of their kind, surveying over 3,000 adults. Here’s a summary of the key findings:

  1. After four years of decline, trust in non-profits has rebounded by 5 points to 57%.
  2. Trust in philanthropy remains steady at 33%, lower than trust in non-profits.
  3. Americans trust non-profits to reduce national divisions more than they trust corporations, government, or media.
  4. Americans have less trust in non-profits to advocate for public policies and conduct nonpartisan voter engagement.
  5. There are clear pathways for non-profits to increase public trust in the sector.

The mission of the Lodi Community Foundation is to advocate and facilitate charitable giving to create lasting legacies that build a strong Lodi community.
