Read on for more about the PMINYC Volunteer Experience
directly from our dedicated volunteers themselves!
Lenin Reyes, PMINYC Technology Team Operations Manager:
"Volunteering means having the same goals of giving your time for a common cause and learning from each other. In PMINYC, volunteering for me means to not wait for an economic reward just to share the same passion for project management and technology. I wanted to meet people, make friends and give my time and experience to the PMINYC community improving my network at the same time and learn from you all too.
I was assigned to the Technology Team and there I learned more about Cybersecurity, I won’t forget the opportunity you gave me for participating in the Onboarding activities, I could discover many other groups that I didn’t know that even exist like Toastmasters for example. Thanks to this volunteering opportunity I am preparing to get my Entry Level Certification in Cybersecurity. I am proud of being part of a great high-quality team of professionals that is always looking for collaborating with each other."
Jaimie Rissin, Mentor, Membership Team
"I have always loved the way PMINYC members/volunteers are so welcoming and generous of spirit. And I am thrilled at the ever evolving diversity of our membership in all directions -- industry, generation, and cultural just to name a few!"
Brianna Callender, Programs Team Voluntee + PDD Registration Team:
"I volunteered with the chapter to expand my network within my areas of interest. As a member for six months and an attendee for about a year, I've been able to develop and build upon skills at PMINYC that I couldn't at my full-time job."
Nick Aprigliano, Director of Mentoring, Membership Team
"My volunteer experience started as a mentor back in 2018 when I realized I actually did have a lot to offer a newly minted Project Manager, PMP or those seeking same. Volunteering as a mentor allowed me to express my desire to finally “give back” to the profession that has provided so much for me and always kept the lights on. Moving through the ranks of Assistant Director and now Director brought my commitment to an entirely elevated level.
Little surpasses the pride and camaraderie I feel when surrounded by fellow volunteers or when mentee calls to tell you how happy they are with their mentor! Of course, seeing my own mentees grow and professionally mature is a wonderful experience as well. Volunteering with the chapter and being the Director of this program is now a huge part of my entire identity."
