Children's Church during the Sermon

THE METHODIST MESSENGER

Making disciples of Jesus Christ who worship passionately, love extravagantly, and witness boldly.

Palm Sunday was wonderful. So many children in church waving palm branches and so many adults too! Celebrating Jesus’ entrance into the city of Jerusalem could very well remind us of Jesus entering into our own hearts. Jerusalem was a strange mixture of holiness and sinfulness; the same as we are. Jerusalem received Jesus with both open arms and crossed arms, with open hearts and closed hearts. We have chosen Jesus’ way, yet sometimes, even knowing what we know, we still choose our way instead of Jesus’ way. Living a faith filled, Jesus following life can be challenging but as we grow in our faith, we find that we choose His way, way more often!

His was a life that led to death - that led again to life, abundant life, joy filled and expectant

of a glorious eternity in heaven. It is a strange thing that God should become human flesh

in Jesus but as God’s people, we need a good shepherd to lead us all home, all the way

home to heaven.

We are His people, His flock. We are the ones looked after and cared for. Our hope is not

for a life free from pain and sorrow, rather our hope is in The One who will present us as perfect in His name, before the throne of God. Easter Celebration of Jesus’ resurrection is

a wonderful reminder of just how magnificent Easter is. When we say “JOIN THE JOY” at

First Methodist, this is the joy of which we are speaking. This resurrection joy flows to us

and through us. It marks us as believers in the miraculous power of God. So, as you are

able, “JOIN THE JOY” this Sunday at our Sunrise Celebration AND/OR at our

10 AM Easter Celebration.

He is not here; He has risen! Remember how He told you, while He was still with you in Galilee: 'The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again."

Luke 24:6-7

As a child, I was raised to understand the meaning of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

The emphasis in our family was focused on the prayer in the garden, His betrayal and sentencing,

and His journey through the streets as He carried the cross to Golgotha. I felt Christ's agony and suffering, knowing my sins were to blame. I was a young adult in my twenties before I thoroughly understood the full meaning of Christ's resurrection, and the amazing and overwhelming love that God the Father had for us, His children, enough so sacrifice His only Son so that we could rejoice and live eternally with Him. As a mother, I can't even imagine if I were told I would have to give up one of my children to save others. But, God did! For those who follow Jesus, Easter is more than time to gather with family and friends. Easter is the God's ultimate celebration of life, the day Jesus rose from the dead. It did not end on the cross! It is the hope we have through Jesus giving us the reassurance that death is not the victor. Death, for believers, is merely the beginning of living forever with our Heavenly Father. How great is our God? Father in Heaven, we come to Your throne, humbly, and unworthy, and yet You still accept us as Your children. Thank You, Lord, for giving each of us a chance to know You, and to have our sins washed away through the life, the death, and the resurrection of Your Son, Jesus Christ. We lift up our hallelujahs to You, and sing our songs of praise to Jesus, the one and only, the King of Kings. With grateful hearts we pray in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, Amen.
