CORSICANA:

A SWEET SLICE OF TEXAS

Surviving and Thriving Off of Sweets

Two of Corsicana's biggest employers are household names for those who love delicacies. Collin Street Bakery, known for its fruitcakes, is based out Corsicana and has been since the late 1800s.

In recent years, the largest employer in the city has become Russell Stover Candies, which has a manufacturing plant in Corsicana, creating candy, chocolate and confections that are shipped all over the world.

Birthplace to Texas Oil

Corsicana was home to the first commercially significant oilfield in Texas after oil was accidentally discovered there in June 1894. Oil had seeped into a well being drilled within city limits.

A refinery was in operation five years later, and oil fields were found in neighboring areas in the years soon after.

Nowadays, the city's economy is no longer reliant on oil and gas, but the city has several historical markers that remember the significance of oil and gas in Corsicana.

As the heavenly aroma of freshly baked goodies wafts through the air, it's no secret that these sugary maestros have woven themselves into the fabric of Corsicana's economic tapestry.

Russell Stover's & Collin Street's unwavering commitment to quality and tradition has not only satisfied sweet cravings but has also sweetened the lives of Corsicana's residents, making them the unsung heroes of the town's economic symphony.

They have not only mastered the art of crafting delightful treats but have also become sweet guardians of prosperity for the community.

In Corsicana, it's not just about having a sweet tooth; it's about having a sweet economy, thanks to the enduring legacy of these confectionery giants.

CORSICANA:

A FOCUS ON THE ARTS

An Artistic Community

Today's downtown supports an active performing arts community, with year-round live theater, art exhibits, and music performances in a corner of downtown anchored by the Warehouse Living Arts Center and the Palace Theater.

Also, an art contest was started in 2018, and brings thousands of pieces of art to downtown each year.

Multitudes of Museums

The town has several museums: Pioneer Village, located by Jester Park, offers reconstructed buildings and artifacts from the early historical period of the area.

The Cook Education Center, located on the Navarro College campus, is a multifaceted venue offering event space, a gift shop, a Civil War museum, a Western Art gallery, and one of the largest planetariums in Texas
