Don't miss it TONIGHT, the Community Unity Dinner

BIG THANKS to everyone who helped make the parsonage backyard a safe and pleasant place for the Freedom School and Sunday Schools to play and have class.

❤️ Tim McDonough and David Vierse who orchestrated the removal of the unsafe back porch of the Parsonage. Thank you. You started it all.

❤️ Ray took the a/c out of the window that over hangs the yard. Thank you Ray!!!

❤️DJ and his girlfriend Sky and his friend Felix came in the heat and scraped and painted the cellar door that had chipping paint. They prepared the stairs to be painted.

❤️Thank you to Diane and Skip for finding and reenforcing the stairs to the parsonage yard.

❤️Thanks to Barb Riney and Bailey Schuchmann for collaborating on a solution to make the former porch area safe

❤️ Thanks again for Ray who secured the fence.

❤️Thank you to Renee McDonough who is willing to donate gardening supplies and soil for the raised bed.

❤️Thank you to Seed St Louis for the raised bed.

Dear Friends,

It’s hard to know what to say in this next to last pastor letter.  It seems right to start with a beginning by letting you know that things are hopping at Maplewood UMC this week as Freedom School and after hours Kids Club are off to a great start. The Freedom School staff, the Kids Club staff and all the kids (aka scholars) are amazing! Thank you to each of you who have volunteered to serve meals and spend time with the Scholars during and after Freedom School! I am truly grateful for this great (and busy!) beginning.

And now something about an ending. As part of the Celebration of Ministry Service at Annual Conference earlier in June, the clergy who were retiring were asked to write a brief statement about their ministry to be included in the conference workbook.

Here’s my statement: What an amazing gift it has been to be able to stand up on Sundays and proclaim the good news of God’s life-giving, life-transforming love that is offered to us through Jesus! And what an amazing gift it has been to serve in ministry with God’s people—to witness up close how God has worked in and through peoples’ lives as they have said, “Yes!” to receiving, living, and sharing God’s love in extravagant, risk-taking ways. Resurrection is real. New life is possible. I have seen it happen while serving with the people of Maplewood UMC. In the end, there is no doubt that I have gained far more than I have given while serving in ministry. I am truly grateful and blessed beyond measure.

I am truly grateful and blessed beyond measure to have served for sixteen years as your pastor. I hope to see you this Sunday for a time to say goodbye and to share some memories, and the next Sunday for time to say “Hello!” to Maplewood UMC’s newest members on their Confirmation Sunday!

God’s grace and peace be with you,

Pastor Kim

p.s.  There are more books on, not just one, but three table.  Please be sure to stop by and take several with you!

Snacks needed for Freedom School & Kids Club

It's Freedom School time and we are asking the congregation to consider donating snacks for the kids for Freedom School and our after hours Kid's Club. As you know, Denise Perry coordinates the food at our Kid's Club. She loves introducing new and healthy snacks to the scholars. Here is a long and fun list of foods that she is suggesting for her "snack buffet". Thank you for considering donating food or monies towards snacks!

(The list of suggested snacks is too long to put here. The categories are:

Drinks. Vegetables (RAW), Fruit FRESH, Crackers & Chips, Cheese, Dips

Dressings, Baked Goods, Jams, Jellies & Butters, Nuts and Seeds

Bits and Pieces

Help needed watering the church's flower pots

A volunteer or two or three is needed to water the outdoor flower pots from the week of June 16th through the week of July 27th. (perhaps someone who comes to help serve breakfast or lunch for Freedom School could water before going home.)

This past Sunday, Colette Cummings shared with the congregation information from both General Conference and Annual Conference.

Church family-Shelly McBurnett continues to need our help! Please share a meal for the family!

She continues with her clinicals which demand more time!

Shelly is a full time student and a single mother. We are her brothers and sisters as she succeeds in this challenge.

Please sign up for a meal on MealTrain with a Wednesday drop off. Here is the link:

MUMC Kids

The children had so much fun discussing important people in their lives and making crafts to show their appreciation to all of the men in the church. They were so excited to pass out the keys they made during children's time!
