Adopt A Pet from the Lassen County Animal Shelter – Puppies

In the market for a puppy? Look no further. The boys have arrived!

The Lassen County Animal Shelter proudly presents: Ronan, Drax, Groot, Rocket, and Quill.

The fabulous five are Cane Corso mixes, therefore their new families should expect them to get very BIG. That means more food needed to grow big and strong, bigger crates to sleep in, food and water bowls with adjustable heights, and enrollment in puppy training right away to ensure they grow into good canine citizens. Ask staff about training options in the area.

animalshelteradopt image

Due to the fact that these pups are too young to be neutered, they will be adopted out of the Lassen County Animal Shelter on $4o neuter deposits. This means that the adopters are responsible for and obligated to neuter their new puppies in order to fulfill their adoption contracts. When proof of neuter is provided by the adopter within the time frame stipulated by shelter staff, then the $40 deposit will be refunded. Neuter appointments should be scheduled as soon as possible after adoption due to how far booked out local vet offices are. Shelter staff would also like to remind adopters that the Lassen Humane Society has a voucher program that provides financial assistance to Lassen County residents for spay/neuter procedures. The Lassen Humane Society can be reached at (530) 257-4555.

Puppies will be adopted out on a first come first serve basis. Staff will not put puppies on HOLD for interested parties calling over the phone. Please come down to the shelter to visit with the puppies, learn their personalities, and choose the boy who best fits your family. Should there already be other dogs in the home, staff recommends that you bring them with you to meet with the puppy. Feel free to call the Lassen County Animal Shelter with questions/inquiries at (530) 257-9200.

Featured animals at the Lassen County Animal Shelter are available for adoption on a first-come-first-serve basis. According to California law, all adoptable dogs and cats must be spayed and neutered before leaving our facility. If interested in adopting an animal, please contact the shelter directly.

Current shelter hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00a.m. to 3:00p.m. Closed Saturday and Sunday. You can contact the shelter at 530.257.9200.

Susanville Airport from the air, 1941

Susanville Aero Group Organized

March 25, 1948

Six chapter members were deputized by Sheriff Olin S. Johnson in the sheriff’s aero squadron, organized Thursday night. Captained by James Lewis, they are Lieutenants Ches Agee and Les Mastolier; other charter members are S. R. Carlomagno, Frank Corson and Mirl Simmons, Corson and Mastolier were civilian flight instructors during the war, and the others are all veterans of the U.S. Air Corps.

The group will meet on the first Monday of each month and will operate in a similar way as the Lassen County sheriff’s posse.

First steps in organizing the local group were made three weeks ago. This group is one of many being organized throughout the country and is set up for emergency service. The pilots can be called on for air search as well as ground duty if the occasion arises.

Requirements for application membership are that a pilot must have either private or commercial license, plus 500 hours of flying time. They must also have the approval of the membership committee and Sheriff Johnson.

Although ownership of a plane is not required members of the aero squadron must have access to a plane on short notice at any time.
