The next beekeeping meeting will be Sunday April 7th at 2pm. We can meet via zoom one more time before the bees come. We will continue to discuss book 1. How to observe a hive entrance, how to set up a hive, a good hive location, and what to wear when working with bees.

We will have another meeting at the very end of April when the bees arrive. We will install 2 hives. One in Bennett and one in Morrison. We don't have an exact date yet, but if you send me your email and or phone number I will let you know when the bees arrive so you can watch the installation. - Amy Dodd

SALE COMMITTEE CORNER

The Livestock Sale Committee thought would be a good idea to give our market animal kids some ideas to be doing now, in preparation for our upcoming auction.

MARCH

  1. If you have not done so already, now is the time to contact your breeder to start figuring out who you will be buying your 4-H market animal from. Contact several breeders to see what they will have available for you and the prices they are charging. You may have to put your name on a wait list. Be sure to let them know the budget you have to work with.
  2. Start writing your buyer letters and getting them sent out to people/companies that are fixtures in your family’s lives, i.e., doctor, dentist, lawyer, insurance agent, mechanic, feed store owner, orthodontist, the places where your parents work, etc. If you are having trouble thinking of people to send letters to, drive down the street in your local town and send letters to companies doing business near you. Remember that a letter now might bring in new buyers to benefit you as well as other kids in the market project. Be sure to tell them about yourself, name, age, what club you belong to, how many years you have been doing this project, and why you love 4-H. Tell them about your animal, (if you already have it), what you plan to show. Don’t forget to invite them to the BBQ and auction. Tell them when, where, and what time the BBQ and auction will be held (July 27, 2024, at 3:00 PM). Be sure to let them know about our add-on option if they are not able to come to the auction. The website will open on the day of the auction and will be available for a couple weeks. A link to the website is: https://arapahoecountyyouthlivestockauction.com
