I’m Home—what a flurry of traveling and in-person workshops we have had! My next traveling workshop is in Bar Harbor, Maine this October. You can read more about that below, in this BobBlast. So, I am home, reacquainting myself with my studio—and that includes prepping my painting tables for my next series.
I paint multiples—two, three or more. I start with the concept - the first of what I call the 5Cs. I paint multiple versions of this concept. They are not all alike. They are similar. They are siblings, not twins.
So, after determining my concept, I am ready to prep my table. I paint flat on a six-foot table, covered with brown craft paper or 4 mil plastic.
Materials I place on my table:
•At least two large, wide-mouthed buckets of water
•Full sheets of 140 or 300 lb watercolor paper, gessoed
•Two or three brushes
•Paint - pre-determined color combination—I only put out that paint + black and white
•Drawing pens and pencils
•Paper Towels
•Sketch Book
•Gel medium and collage papers
•Spray bottles—one with water, one with isopropyl alcohol
•Hand barrier salve
I place my tools—brushes, paints, drawing materials and water on my right side because I am right-handed. I have everything ready so I don’t have to look for it and break my cadence!
The last part of my painting prep is tearing the paper to the size I want to work on. Also, because I mount my watercolor paper paintings on cradled wood panels, I want to have all four edges deckled. Watch the video and see how I do that!
Creating a Series is part of the Loosen Up Workshop Retreat! I have an In-Person Loosen Up Workshop in my Studio coming up in a few months! There are more in-person Loosen Up Workshops scheduled in Bar Harbor, Maine and Hermosa Beach, CA. Join us! Reserve your spot today!
