YOUR EYES OF UNDERSTANDING
Did you know that each of us has at least two sets of eyes? We have the physical eyes that we are born with, but we have spiritual eyes also. Often, we make decisions based on our physical eyes instead of seeing with our spiritual eyes.
In the Book of Ephesians chapter 1:18 it says, “The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints.” This was a prayer that Paul said for the people of Ephesus. He didn’t want them to “be in the dark.” Notice the word enlightened. It means to shine or brighten up or be made to see. God wants our spiritual eyes to see the things of light. He doesn’t want us to ponder and walk in the dark when it comes to knowing Him.
Man is made of spirit, soul, and body. Before we are born again, our spirit is dead towards the things of God. Once we receive salvation, we have a new spirit. Holy Spirit resides within us and guides us into all truth. We receive revelation of His will by studying the word and through prayer. He “opens our eyes” so to speak to God’s truths that we have been blind to.
The people in Ephesus had worshipped many gods other than the true God, Jehovah. Paul knew that they needed help and prayed this prayer. We can speak this prayer over ourselves also.
We would say it this way, “Lord, I ask you to open the eyes of my understanding and cause them to be enlightened so I will know the hope of your calling on my life and learn what the riches of my inheritance from your glory is. I ask it in the name of Jesus.” It is that simple.
God wants us to see my friends. Don’t keep the blinders on when He has enlightened you!
We want to thank you for being with us here today.
