Today, South Carolina-born, South Africa-based singer-songwriter Ginger Winn shares dreamy, swirling track and video "Super 8" out now. To celebrate the release, the artist will host two single release parties–one in Woodstock, NY at Early Terrible and one in Florence, Italy at La Menagere on March 23. Free tickets with RSVP are available, with complimentary food and drinks, for Woodstock, NY here and Florence, Italy here.

Inspired by the complexities of being a young woman and the hard fought realities of making one’s own ever-winding dreams come true, Winn's ethereal yet booming vocals invite listeners into the hazy dream-like reality of her anxious yet ambitious mind on "Super 8." It unfolds with an acoustic guitar and is carried by Winn's delicate vocals mixed with swelling horns as the artist chronicles the intricacies of falling in love with recollections that feel familiar yet distant–as if to watch flashbacks play back on Super 8 film. The track is a tribute to the fleeting dreams of one's twenties, as Winn shares, "This song is about dreaming of love, falling into it, and celebrating it, a story of the little moments we all share. Where your imagination shows you what it’s like to fall in love with a stranger, walk down a road in Italy you’ve never been, or finally making it to New York City—These dreams feel so out of reach for so many of us, but at the same time, they are what drives all of us."

The track was produced by David Baron (The Lumineers, Shania Twain, Shawn Mendes) and recorded at his own Sun Mountain Studios in Boiceville, NY. Baron opens the song with a French celesta once played by Thelonious Monk and with hypnotic horns, pays homage to Louis Armstrong. In addition to masterful production, the track features trumpet played by Chris Pasin, who played with Buddy Rich in the 1980s and toured with Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Ella Fitzgerald and more. It was produced to illustrate an escape to a surreal world–built around a dizzying acoustic guitar that might accompany a carousel ride, and closes as if to drift off to sleep.

Its accompanying video, appropriately shot on Super 8 film and edited by Nicholas Paul, brings Winn's multifaceted story to life. Throughout the video, a slumbering Winn oscillates between dreamworld and reality, finding herself in peculiar places like Jane’s Carrousel in Brooklyn, NY and the backroads of Tuscany. Directors Tina Baione and Ellery Luse Weiss say, “The power of this song and with dreams themselves is that they can be so many things at one time. They can be gorgeous, scary, jumbled, and confusing - while at all times feeling surreal. This video is meant to capture the power of dreams and unique feelings they provide us.” The visual was shot by Walter Wall in Brooklyn, NY, by Brooklyn Zeh in Woodstock, NY, and by Christian Schilling and Philip Casey in Tuscany–a myriad of dreamworlds.

Born and raised in South Carolina, Ginger Winn has been singing and songwriting since age nine. With the pursuit of music always central in her mind, she began working as a freelance music producer online over two years ago, leading her to her latest offering–"Super 8." In 2022, Winn received a message from Tina Baione to help turn her husband Matthew's poetry into a song, and "Super 8" was born. The three have been making music together ever since, and through Winn's music, are thrilled to build a sonic and visual universe of their own.

Ginger Winn Bio

Born and raised in South Carolina, the daughter of a lightning photographer and a songwriter, Ginger Winn has dedicated her life to singing and songwriting since the age of 9. She did not attend or complete high school after the age of 16. She could not imagine doing anything with her life other than making music, so she didn’t bother pursuing anything else…but of course she had to take on jobs to survive. One job that stuck was working as a pastry chef for over three years while making music. Ginger was talented at the job but tortured by the idea that what she really needed to be making for people was music not cakes. She needed to escape.

A little over 2 years ago, Ginger started working as a freelance music producer online – taking on commissioned work assignments by non-musicians who had an idea for a song either as a creative or to gift the song to a loved one. One of the websites she tried was Upwork. Her first assignment came from Tina Baione. Her husband, Matthew, had been writing poems that he only showed to her. While she appreciated the intimacy of the private poems, Tina always felt more people deserved to hear this poetry – and that it wasn’t poetry at all, it was song lyrics. So, she made a posting searching for a freelance singer to turn poetry into songs. Ginger responded to the posting in March of 2022 and sent back the original version of what has become the new single, “Super 8.” She later moved to South Africa to be with her boyfriend who is also a musician.

For the past two years, Ginger, Matt, and Tina have been making music together as an art collective. Everything they make is grounded in the visuals – how it looks and feels has always been as important as how it should sound.
