Daily Lenten Offering

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?”

Matthew 6:25

Holy Spirit, interrupt my cynical imagination with hope. When I am swept up in my anxiety or the many real worries of this world, call me back to your good nature. Teach me to breathe with your breath, to achieve the leveling calm of your expanding grace. Amen.

Today’s exercise helps you to define who you are and who you are not, what belongs to you and what does not. Use the image or this pdf to explore these questions:

  1. Choose three words that describe yourself.
  2. Did you instinctively select how others perceive you or how you define yourself?
  3. Try again, how do you define yourself to yourself. What is you and what is not you?
  4. Reflect on recent example when someone other than you tried to define you. How might you resist, in love, such an effort in the future?
  5. Reflect on a recent example when you reacted as if someone were trying to define you. What contributed to that response?
