Children’s Spring Festival & Egg Hunt
| | | Hop on over to La Colonia Community Park for the annual Children’s Spring Festival and Egg Hunt happening this Saturday, April 19th. The event’s main attraction is the Egg Hunt (starting at 10:30 AM), where children in third grade or younger can search for colorful eggs filled with treats and prizes. Families are encouraged to bring a basket or festive bag to help children collect their goodies. The event will also feature a train ride, crafts, fun jumps, piñatas, and the chance to take photos with the Spring Bunny. Guests can enjoy complimentary refreshments, including lemonade, coffee, popcorn, and cookies. This fun-filled event is a favorite springtime tradition open to all and will take place rain or shine. | | Register for Bike Anywhere Day | | | SANDAG invites you to participate in Bike Anywhere Day on Thursday, May 15th. For more than 30 years, this annual event has encouraged San Diegans to reduce traffic and air pollution by choosing biking as a fun, healthy, and sustainable way to get around. Join thousands of riders by riding your bike to work, school, or anywhere! Make sure to register in advance to be automatically entered into a sweepstakes to win one of three e-bikes from Rad Power Bikes! Want to learn more? SANDAG is hosting a free “Know Before You Go” virtual class on May 6th that prepares folks to ride their bikes on Bike Anywhere Day. | | Annual Creek to Bay Cleanup & Fletcher Cove Cleanup Basket Station Ribbon Cutting Ceremony | | | Celebrate Earth Week by taking part in a special dual event on Saturday, April 26th at Fletcher Cove Beach. The 23rd Annual Creek to Bay Cleanup is being held in conjunction with the official launch of the City’s new Beach Cleanup Station. To kick off the event, the City will host a special ribbon cutting ceremony at 9:00 AM to unveil the new Beach Cleanup Station at Fletcher Cove Beach. Volunteers will be invited to use the baskets during the cleanup and be among the first to use this new community resource designed to make it easy for beachgoers to help keep our shoreline clean and beautiful year-round. Register to join the official Solana Beach Creek to Bay Cleanup site and be part of San Diego County’s largest coastal cleanup effort. | | Help Shape the Future of the Del Mar Fairgrounds | | | The 22nd District Agricultural Association has launched Fairgrounds 2050, a master planning project to guide the future of the Del Mar Fairgrounds, Surf & Turf Recreation Center, and Del Mar Horsepark. As part of this effort, the District is seeking community input to ensure these beloved spaces continue to support recreation, education, entertainment, and agriculture for generations to come. These facilities are located right next to Solana Beach, and any changes may directly impact our community. The City will host the Fairgrounds at a City Council meeting on May 21st, at 6:00 PM, where you can learn more about the planning effort. Residents are also encouraged to participate in the linked survey and share their ideas with the Fairgrounds to help shape the future of this iconic and neighboring coastal destination. | |
County to Conduct First Mosquito-fighting
Larvicide Drop of 2025 Next Week
| | | The County is preparing for its first routine aerial larvicide drop of the year, scheduled for Wednesday, April 23rd and Thursday, April 24th. A total of 52 local waterways, including San Elijo Lagoon and San Dieguito Lagoon, will be treated to help curb mosquito populations and reduce the risk of diseases like West Nile virus. Every year from April through October, the County conducts these drops using special helicopters to apply solid, granular larvicide to hard-to-reach areas such as rivers, streams, lagoons, and ponds. This larvicide poses no threat to humans or pets but is highly effectively in eliminating mosquito larvae before they mature into biting adults. This is just one of the many ways the County helps protect public health during mosquito season. | | Residents Schedule a Pickup for HHW or E-Waste | | | Do you have Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) or electronic waste (E-Waste) to dispose of but can’t drive to a drop-off facility? Solana Beach residents can use a convenient Door-to-Door collection service. HHW includes leftover products with harmful chemicals often used at home, in the garden, or for your car. Items labeled Caution, Warning, Danger, Poison, Toxic, Flammable, or Corrosive are considered hazardous and should never be thrown in the trash, poured down the drain, or allowed to enter storm drains. To schedule a pickup, call (858) 481-7233. Residents must pay a $10 co-payment for HHW pick-up. There is no charge for qualifying homebound or senior residents (65 and older), or for E-Waste pick-up. | | Updated Fire Hazard Severity Zones for California | | | Cal Fire has released updated Fire Hazard Severity Zone maps for the first time since 2007. These new maps reflect current wildfire conditions and classify areas in Solana Beach as having moderate, high, or very high fire hazard levels. Developed by the Office of the State Fire Marshal, the maps use improved data and modeling to better understand where wildfire hazards exist. While they don’t assess risk at the individual property level, they help guide where fire safety regulations should apply. Residents are encouraged to review the maps and submit public comments by April 25th. A full overview of these updates will be presented by Fire Chief Gordon during the May 7th City Council meeting. | |
