Possible Changes in School Hours for 24-25

Dear AL Community,

In an effort to streamline our services and ensure the best possible experience for our students, Académie Lafayette will be taking over the full student transportation service for all three campuses next year. Currently, First Student is still providing 2 of the 4 buses needed for transportation at Oak. As part of this transition, some of our buses will be tiered to accommodate the needs of all our students effectively.

To minimize disruptions and ensure that students arrive on time, we are considering implementing a one-hour time difference for school start and end times across our campuses. The proposed school hours are as follows for regular school days:

  • Armour: doors open at 7:00 am, classes start at 7:30 am, classes dismiss at 3:00 pm
  • Cherry & Oak: doors open at 8:00 am, classes start at 8:30 am, classes dismiss at 4:00 pm

Late start Wednesdays hours (before care will be provided for a nominal fee):

  • Armour: doors open at 8:30 am, classes start at 8:45 am, classes dismiss at 3:00 pm
  • Cherry & Oak: doors open at 9:30 am, classes start at 9:45 am, classes dismiss at 4:00 pm

Additionally, to support working families, we are also exploring the possibility of opening the elementary buildings at 7:45 am (15 minutes earlier than usual). Please click here to take our K-5 arrival time and childcare survey.

We believe these changes will enhance the efficiency and convenience of our transportation services while accommodating the needs of our school community. We will provide further updates as we finalize these plans and appreciate your understanding and support during this transition.

Have a great weekend.

Board Meeting Notice

The Académie Lafayette Board of Directors will meet online & in the Armour conference room at 6:00 pm on Monday, April 8. You can view the meeting live on our YouTube channel. Click here to read the agenda.

MS Dance: Volunteers Needed

We still need volunteer chaperones for the Middle School Spring Dance, Saturday, April 6, from 6-8 pm. Please click here to volunteer. Chaperones are essential to make the dance a success!

Students will be dancing, eating refreshments, and playing games at the Armour campus. There will be a DJ and a photo booth + tons of games and activities! Click here for tickets.

Musketeer March - THANK YOU!

WOW, Musketeers! What a FUN week! Students were so energetic and engaged - walking, dancing (SO many dance breaks!), skipping, stomping, airplane-ing and roller-coastering around the track to hit their lap goals and help us hit our fundraising goal.

AND IT WORKED! We met our goal of $75,000 thanks to YOU! We are grateful for this wonderful community that continues to support our students and school. What an incredible week.

Students at each campus earned a casual day for their event day. Cherry's casual day will be this upcoming Monday, April 8, since the Cherry Musketeer March occurred on a previously scheduled casual day.

Profits from the Musketeer March go to the Annual Fund, which supports initiatives this year around security and classroom improvements. ALIHS students also had the opportunity to put half of what they individually fundraised towards their international trips.

Eclipse Viewing - Monday 4/8

Each campus will be passing out eclipse glasses to students and teachers in preparation for the Total Solar Eclipse on Monday, April 8. Our schools will experience 90% mid-eclipse coverage at 1:54pm CT.

Homeroom teachers will send additional information on how they may plan to participate. If you would like for your student to opt out of activities, please contact their homeroom teacher directly.

24-25 School Supplies and April Discount

Each spring, the PTO coordinates a school supply sale. Kits are created based on our teachers’ supply lists and are available for parents to order in advance. Parents receive an early bird discount when they purchase through Yubbler in the spring. The PTO receives a portion of the proceeds as well as a credit for our social workers to use! The supplies will be delivered to your home.

Click here to view the lists and to purchase your school supplies starting April 8th. You do not have to buy the whole kit. If you order during the month of April you will receive a 20% discount on core items!

* The middle school lists have had significant updates this year.

Evening in Paris 2024: Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer support is needed to help make Evening in Paris 2024 one of the best yet! Support is needed Friday 4/19, Saturday 4/20 and Monday 4/22. Even better: if you volunteer DURING Evening in Paris on Saturday evening, you are provided a ticket to the event. Meaning we would love for you to stay and partake in the festivities before or after your volunteer time slot!

AL in the Community

On Monday, the first of April, Girl Scout troop 0555 had a surprise guest speaker! Vice-principal Dorothée Werner sat with scouts from both AL Oak and Cherry campuses to reinforce the lesson of our meeting, discussing the Respect for Authority patch. This turned out to be a very heartfelt and endearing message on why rules are made and how they are meant to keep our kiddos safe. Our budding French speakers were quite shocked when she invited the kids to explain "en anglais", why they thought that the rules were important and addressed a hope for our future AL culture; that kids aren't viewed as bad when they don't follow the rules and that it's important to make mistakes because that's how we learn. We are so grateful to have had this opportunity for our Girl Scouts to hear this essential message. Thank you again VP Werner for being a positive force of nature at AL!

Wanted: ALIHS Internship Opportunities

As summer approaches our ALIHS students are looking for opportunities to broaden their horizons and gain experience in the world of work. We are lucky to have many professionals in our parent population. If you are one such person and know of an internship opportunity for high school students in your place of business, please reach out to Liz Seely at lseely@academielafayette.org. Our students have skills and talents in a range of fields including coding, graphic design, engineering, and journalism. They are interested in everything from health care to education to technical careers. Thank you for taking the time to reach out if you are aware of any relevant opportunities!
