Upcoming Vote - Public Safety Sales Tax
UPCOMING VOTE — On Tuesday, August 6, Gig Harbor voters will choose whether to enact a public safety sales tax of 0.1%. This amounts to 10 cents on every 100-dollar purchase. The money will be directed to sustain our police department patrol staffing, add a much-needed administrative position, and support other public safety programs.
With this sustainability, our police department will be able to dedicate more resources to traffic enforcement and other community-specific problems, as well as achieve and maintain state accreditation. As our population increases, so do the demands on our law enforcement services. A public safety sales tax will spread the burden of these costs to include non-residents who utilize our services daily. We hope to keep Gig Harbor the safe, family-friendly place that it has always been.
