Tell Your State Rep to Restore Universal Choice in the Budget

As we enter the final days of the 2025 legislative session, we need our non-pub

stakeholders to be engaged! INPEA will be sending more action alerts and legislative

updates as information changes, so expect more frequent opportunities to engage!

Non-pub stakeholders, we need your help!

Earlier this week, the Senate approved its version of the budget and unfortunately, it did NOT include universal choice. This was somewhat expected – the Senate took the Choice expansion out of the 2023 budget as well. Now, the Senate’s version of HB 1001 heads to a conference committee for legislators to work through the differences between the House and Senate versions of the budget. Additionally, the state budget committee heard a dismal revenue forecast yesterday, which poses even greater challenges for our choice expansion in the upcoming budget. It is even more critical that state legislators hear about the importance of the program and its expansion to universal eligibility.

The House and Senate fiscal committees will be working feverishly this weekend to agree on a budget that is realistic and still gives priority to K-12 education. NOW is the time that legislators need to hear from their constituents that universal choice is important! We need you to reach out to your state representative to encourage them to find the funding to add universal choice back into the budget. All Hoosier taxpayers should be able to use a portion of their tax dollars to pay for their child(ren)’s education in the school of their choice. We need universal choice in Indiana!
