Happy Easter and Happy Ramadan 2024!

We at MPBID hope all Morris Park enjoyed a wonderful Easter holiday, and a peaceful month of Ramadan! MPBID is grateful to be able to decorate Morris Park Avenue with Ramadan lights for a 2nd time this year, thanks to a "Small BID" grant from the NYC Mayor Eric Adams, through the NYC Department of Small Business Services. We thank them!

MANDATORY DSNY trash containerization requirement for all businesses is in force since March 1, 2024

Dining Out NYC

Applications Open for Summer 2024!

NEW GUIDANCE FOR CREDIT CARD SURCHARGHES

New Guidance for Credit Card Surcharges – Starting February 11, 2024, there is new guidance for New York State businesses when charging an additional fee to customers paying with a credit card.

A business has the option of passing along the actual cost of credit card processing gees as a surcharge to customers, but they must be transparent by displaying the highest total price (excluding sales tax).

Legal options:

  • Clearly display BOTH the credit card and cash price
  • List the HIGHER credit card price and advertise a DISCOUNT for cash purchases
  • Use the SAME PRICE for both case and credit card purchases

If you have questions about the law, want to see examples, or are not sure you are following the law correctly, please visit dos.ny.gov/creditcardsurcharge or call (800) 697-1220.

IMPORTANT ADVISORY TO PROPERTY OWNERS

REGARDING

ILLEGAL SMOKESHOPS COMMERCIAL TENANTS

NYC Council Introduction 1001-B, now known as Local Law 107 of 2023, prohibits owners of commercial spaces from knowingly leasing to unlicensed sellers of marijuana or tobacco products, imposing fines of up to $10,000 on landlords for violations.

Under this new law, agencies that conduct inspections for unlicensed marijuana or tobacco sales and find such activity may provide written notice to the property owner requiring they ensure such unlicensed activity is ceased, serving as the basis of violation.

Any subsequent inspection that finds continued violation would make the landlord subject to a $5,000 civil penalty at first, and a $10,000 penalty for each subsequent violation. The commencement of an eviction proceeding shall be considered an affirmative defense for a landlord.
