Join the National Indian Health Board’s Tribal Scholars for Health & Sustainability Program

The National Indian Health Board (NIHB) is excited to announce the launch of the 2025 Tribal Scholars for Health & Sustainability (TSHS) Program — a virtual, immersive educational experience for students and recent graduates passionate about Tribal public health and policy.


This 10-week program (May 19 – July 25, 2025) provides hands-on experience with real-world public health projects impacting Tribal communities. Scholars will receive a $3,600 educational stipend, paid travel to Washington, D.C. during the final week of the program, and the chance to build lasting connections with leaders across Indian Country.

  • Who can apply: Current students or recent grads from Tribal Colleges and Universities or other post-secondary programs
  • Application deadline: May 9, 2025, at 4:59 PM ET
  • Program dates: May 19 – July 25, 2025
  • Travel week in D.C.: July 21 – July 25, 2025
  • Stipend: $3,600 + travel support


Program Highlights:

  • Work on public health topics such as environmental health, maternal and child health, policy, infectious disease, and more
  • Learn from and network with Tribal leaders and national partners
  • Build professional skills in research, communication, and analysis
  • Present a capstone project at the conclusion of the program

Join Our Tribal Scholars Development Committee!

Are you passionate about strengthening Tribal public health, education, and workforce development? The National Indian Health Board is now recruiting members for the Tribal Scholars for Health & Sustainability (TSHS) Development Committee. This is a unique opportunity to contribute your expertise and shape a growing program that supports the next generation of Tribal public health leaders.


As a committee member, you’ll:

  • Collaborate on program design and development
  • Create and share career and internship resources
  • Support students and recent graduates pursuing careers in Tribal public health


Details:

  • Honorarium: $500 stipend
  • Time Commitment: 6 virtual meetings plus occasional independent tasks
