UPCOMING DEADLINES

FLORIDA GEORGIA LOUIS STOKES ALLIANCE FOR MINORITY PARTICIPATION (FGLSAMP)

The Florida Georgia Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (FGLSAMP) in STEM was founded by the National Science Foundation (NSF). The program’s mission is to increase the number of STEM baccalaureate and graduate degrees awarded to historically underrepresented populations. FGLSAMP aids with acclimation to the college environment, the social and academic integration of the undergraduate experience, and the engagement in research and internship opportunities. For more info about FSU's Chapter, contact Alicia Batailles

 

Benefits of FGLSAMP Participation:

  • Join a community of STEM students and graduate students.
  • Work with a grad student mentor.
  • Engage in activities that will help you find academic opportunities.
  • Participate in STEM events throughout the year.

The CRE will be hosting a Getting into Research Workshop. We encourage you to attend if you are interested in getting involved in research while studying at FSU. The workshops will be held in HSF 3008 and via Zoom.

TYLER FELLOWS INFO SESSIONS

Are you interested in advancing your research skills? Do you want to prepare for grad school? Are you passionate about traveling around the world?


Apply to be a Tyler Fellow!


The Tyler Center for Global Studies Fellowship gives you the tools to conduct research at an international level during the summer. 


Tyler Fellows can apply to receive up to $4,000 to fund an international research project of their own design. Learn more about this opportunity at one of our upcoming info sessions (in HSF Room 3008 or on Zoom):

You're invited to the 2024 President's Showcase of Undergraduate Research Excellence. This event, a collaboration between the Office of the President and the Center for Undergraduate Research and Academic Engagement (CRE), is the culmination of the IDEA Grant projects.


At the President’s Showcase, 35 summer research award winners will share their research and creative projects through poster and oral presentations. This year’s Showcase will take place on Thursday, October 10, 2024 from 5:30pm to 7:30 pm in the FSU Student Union Ballrooms.


If your campus office is interested in tabling at this event, please submit an interest form no later than Friday, September 20th, 2024. Email cre@fsu.edu for questions related to the event.

GLOBAL SCHOLARS APPLICATION NOW OPEN

The FSU Global Scholars program offers a unique opportunity for undergraduate students to engage with critical questions about social impact, social justice, and social change through a combination of academic, classroom-based learning as well as independent research, internship, and/or service-learning experiences.

STUDENT STAR

Skylar Ruffner participated in the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program where she focused on teaching math vocabulary in the context of a shared reading routing to preschool children at risk for language delays under Taryn Wade. She presented her project, The Effects of Shared Reading on the Geometry Vocabulary Knowledge of Preschool Children At Risk for Language Delays, at the 22nd Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium. Skylar is also a 2024-2025 UROP Leader.


Ruffner’s immersion in research, particularly within the Hammock Lab, has yielded significant contributions to the field of neuroscience. Her work focuses on oxytocin’s role in postnatal brain development.


Additionally, she has made substantial community contributions through her role as a volunteer diving coach and her involvement in the pre-medical chapter of Phi Delta Epsilon, FL Zeta, where she serves as historian.

Through her multifaceted endeavors, Ruffner exemplifies a commitment to excellence, service and scholarly inquiry that enriches both the FSU community and the broader Tallahassee area.
