READ.LEARN.SUCCEED.:

Volunteer Today!


READ.LEARN.SUCCEED. is a United Way NELA community initiative aimed at helping local 2nd and 3rd graders improve their reading and writing skills. Launched in 2012, this initiative partners trained volunteers with students in 20 local schools to enhance their literacy skills.

 

WHY DOES READING MATTER?

Children reading below grade level by 3rd grade are four times less likely to graduate high school.

 

HOW CAN I HELP?

-Become a Volunteer Reader, Pen Friend, or both

-Volunteer from October through March

 

HOW DO I VOLUNTEER?

- Sign up below (must be 17 years old or older)

- Attend virtual training (15 minutes)

- Commit to reading with or writing to assigned students once a month

- Attend an Ending Celebration

BANK ON NELA:

Debt Repayment



United Way of Northeast Louisiana is hosting a BankOn NELA Borrowing and Debt Repayment Workshop on Thursday, September 19.

 

This workshop will focus on the different loan and borrowing options, strategies for how to best manage debt, and tackling debt repayment.

 

The workshop will be held at the Miller Roy Building, located at 1001 Desiard Street from 12 to 1 p.m. There will also be a Zoom option available. Register below!
