Celebrate July 4th with Us

Come out and celebrate America's birthday in the City of Cumming!

Parking is available at the Castleberry Road and School Street parking decks, as well as at businesses along the route. Remember to stay hydrated and bring ear protection (especially for littles ones) as the steam engines are LOUD.

Mayor & City Council Recognize Cumming PD for FBI Leadership Training

During their Work Session on June 4th, Mayor Troy Brumbalow and City Council honored the leadership team of the Cumming Police Department for receiving the FBI's LEEDA Agency Trilogy Award. The award honors the department’s successful completion of a cutting-edge leadership training program designed to strengthen public safety leadership worldwide.

The entire Command Staff of the Cumming Police Department completed a comprehensive three-part leadership series. The training engages public safety professionals in critical topics such as diversity and inclusion, bias, public trust, transformational leadership, social and emotional intelligence and more. The Agency Trilogy Award provides law enforcement agencies with the leadership skills needed to advance their departments and the communities they serve each day.

Cumming PD is one of just five law enforcement agencies in Georgia to have received the award thus far in 2024. Since the inception of the Agency Trilogy Award, only 136 law enforcement organizations have been awarded for excellence in leadership and completion of FBI-LEEDA's flagship courses.

In other business during the June Work Session and Regular Meeting, City Council took the following actions:

  • Approved, in a 4-0 vote with Councilman Jason Evans absent, an agreement with Horizon Christian Academy (HCA) and the Cumming Police Department to provide a School Resource Officer. The officer would be funded by HCA but would be a fully-certified officer through the Cumming PD and would be available for use by the department during school off-seasons.

  • Approved, in a 4-0 vote with Councilman Jason Evans absent, the low bid from Applied Industrial Technologies for purchase of gear boxes that help run aerators at the Advanced Water Reclamation Facility.

  • Approved, in a 4-0 vote with Councilman Jason Evans absent, the purchase and installation of additional SCADA system components for Cumming Utilities' Potable Water Production Facility. This addition will satisfy EPD requirements for computerized monitoring of the filtering system and other plant components.

  • Approved alcohol licenses for Happy Family Restaurant, 103 Courthouse Square, and Los Compadres Restaurant, 125 Tribble Gap Road, Suite 101.

  • Approved Rezoning Application #2024141, which was City-initiated. • Approved Conditional Use Permit #2024037, which will allow for construction of a church at 375 Mary Alice Park Road in a Single-Family Residential zoning district.

  • Mayor and City Council also attended a joint specially called meeting with the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners on June 20th at the Forsyth County Administration Building where the elected officials discussed the upcoming referendum to continue Forsyth County's Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST).
