We'll be back next Sunday, April 27!

Next Sunday, April 27th, we begin our two week study of Bishop Budde's book, How We Learn to be Brave. We will have a fruitful discussion of this encouraging and challenging book. It is helpful to have read the first few chapters of the book, but even if you haven't, you will benefit from the discussion. To view a "Cliff Notes" of the book, click here.

April Giving-2-Others

The St. Francis Center

The St. Francis Center (SFC) is a ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of Colorado, a refuge for homeless adults in the metro Denver area. SFC provides shelter along with a myriad of services that enable people to meet their basic survival needs. These services include a daytime shelter, social services, health and wellness, housing and employment. Their goal is to help guests transition out of homelessness into self-sufficiency. Their most recent housing project is a 60-unit supportive housing complex at 2nd Ave. and Federal that serves older low-income adults, often with disabling conditions. For more information about SFC, click here.

To donate online, click here or earmark a check to St. Barnabas for “Giving-2-Others” and place it in the offering plate or mail.

Your generosity is greatly appreciated!

Easter Brunch

Sunday, April 20 8:15-9:15

On Easter Sunday, April 20, St. Barnabas will host its annual Easter brunch in Grant Hall. We provide the eggs and drinks and ask parishioners to bring a bread or fruit item to share. This is a buffet for folks to stop by anytime between 8:15 - 9:15. It is a great way to begin our Easter celebration together!

A Message From Bishop Kym

This past Sunday, Palm Sunday, our Presiding Bishop, Sean Rowe, received word that Al-Ahli Hospital in Gaza City, a ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem, had been hit by Israeli missiles. It was reported that the emergency department, the pharmacy, and the chapel were destroyed, leaving patients without shelter and others without access to healthcare. We grieve the loss of this important ministry, and as we embark on Holy Week, the time in which we walk with Jesus the way of the cross, the time in which we remind ourselves that sacrificial love indeed involves sacrifice, I ask your prayers. And because it is our tradition in the Episcopal Church to offer up our Good Friday offerings to the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem, I ask that you give generously. You give generously to our siblings in Christ who are striving to make peace in a violent world. (If you would like to give to this, mark your check "Ahli Hospital and we will send it on to the diocese.)

Sunday, April 27 Petition Signing After Worship

Call on the Trump Administration to return the immigrants unlawfully expelled to El Salvador

Amnesty International is conducting a campaign against the unlawful expulsions of immigrants from the United States to El Salvador: “We call on the Trump administration to immediately return those that were illegally removed to El Salvador back to the US and halt any subsequent expulsions or deportations of Venezuelans or other third country nationals, complying with the decisions of the US Judiciary.” On Sunday April 27th, join us in signing a petition and/or writing a letter to letter to Kristi Noem, Secretary of Homeland Security. Take action and sign the petition here.

St. Barnabas Highlights

Spring Luncheon and Palm Sunday

April Committee Spotlight:

The Outreach Committee

The Vestry will highlight the work of a different St. Barnabas committee each month. This month it’s the Outreach Committee!

St. Barnabas has always been a parish that values service to those in need and our mission statement includes “committed outreach” as an essential part of who we are. The Outreach Committee oversees our outreach ministries, providing both volunteer and financial support. Members of the committee this year are Janet Manning (Chair), Walter Flor, Brent Sanders, Matt and Suzy Stolwyck, Barb Mattison (Vestry Liaison) and the Rev. Stephanie Kopsch (Clergy support).

One way the committee supports the community is through our Giving-2-Others program, where donations from parishioners are supplemented by a $500 grant from the Outreach budget to a different non-profit organization each month.

We have three ongoing projects that provide more “hands on” volunteer support. We'd love to hear from anyone who would like to get involved in these ongoing projects.

  • Lunch Brigade for The Colorado Coalition for the Homeless- provides 50 sack lunches one Friday each month. For more information or to volunteer, contact Celeste Richardson chrich2000@gmail.com.
  • St. Francis Apartments at Cathedral Square Lunch- provided on the first Wednesday of each month. For more information or to volunteer, contact Janet Manning jandbmanning@comcast.net.
  • Family Promise - Dinner is provided for homeless families several times during the year. For more information or to volunteer, contact Brent and Becky Sanders bb.sanders@comcast.net
