SaskCulture’s 2024 Annual General Meeting and Member Session took place in person, on Friday, June 14, 2024, at the Conexus Arts Centre.

New reading group for SK museums | The Museum Association of Saskatchewan (MAS) launched the MAS Reading Group this month. This online bi-weekly forum provides member museums with an opportunity to discuss and share commentary and experiences related to various reading materials. For the first installment, the group will read the Canadian Museums Association’s Moved to Action report about Activating UNDRIP in Canadian Museums. Read more | Online streaming services to contribute to Canada’s broadcasting system | As a step towards the implementation of the 2023 Online Streaming Act, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission is now requiring online streaming companies to contribute 5% of their revenues to the funding of Canadian and Indigenous music and audiovisual content, and independent local news. This change will come into effect in the 2024 broadcast year and is expected to bring in around $200 million per year in new funding. Read more | Cultural workers in Canada experience severe affordability challenges | In a recent survey on affordability and working conditions in the cultural sector, Hill Strategies found that most workers are financially stressed and dissatisfied with the affordability of their homes. The survey, commissioned by the Cultural Human Resources Council, found that financial challenges are particularly acute for cultural workers who are D/deaf and/or disabled, IBPOC, LGBTQ2SIA+, gender diverse, women, or young. The risk of attrition in the cultural sector is high, with one-third of responding cultural workers having very seriously considered leaving the sector in 2023. Hill Strategies released a new analysis of several data sources regarding diversity in the arts and culture workforce in Canada. The findings show trends of pay inequality and exclusion from leadership roles, including that:
- In arts leadership occupations, transgender artists and non-binary artists have lower incomes than cisgender women artists, who have similar incomes to cisgender men artists.
- For all workers in the arts, culture, and heritage, there is a substantial income gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous workers, although there is almost no difference between Indigenous women and Indigenous men.
- In all cultural occupations, racialized women and men have lower incomes in arts leadership occupations than non-racialized men and women. Read more

Medicine Wheel Workshops (City of Prince Albert - Artists in Communities)
On Wednesdays in July, join Lisa Halsall & Alex Powalinsky for Medicine Wheel workshops. This series of workshops uses self-reflection, beading, and medicine wheel teachings to help participants explore their strengths and resources in all aspects of their being. Workshops are for the Indigiqueer community and allies. Participants may attend all sessions or one session.

Registration is now open for the Treaty Learning Journey: Let's Talk Truth Conference.
