10am Sunday Service: We Should Always Be Able To Say "I'm Sorry"

We are all taught as children to say “I’m sorry” when we have hurt someone else. As adults, however, some of us have a harder time than others putting this lesson into practice. It’s never a mistake to say “I’m sorry” even if we believe we are in the right.

Speaker: Peter House

Each Sunday ushers will have several large-print copies of the order of service available. If you would like one, please ask an usher.

July 13 & Aug. 10| Help FPGROC Prepare Apartments!

Family Promise of Greater Rochester (FPGROC) is calling for volunteers to help renovate eight apartments in two buildings acquired from City Roots Community Land Trust. FPGROC plans to rent these at below-market rates as transitional housing for families so that families can save money and prepare for permanent housing with FPGROC's help. A group of us plans to volunteer for a few hours to prepare the apartments, starting at 1pm on Saturday, July 13, and on Saturday, August 10. If interested in joining us, please contact Chris DeGolyer at housingforall@uuroc.org

Saturday, July 20 | Rochester Pride Parade!

Our church will join with other local UUs to march or watch the annual Rochester Pride Parade on July 20 at 11am. Line-up begins at 10am. Sign up at pride@uuroc.org or in the Clara Barton Lounge during coffee in early July to participate. Details regarding time, line-up, parking, lawn chair watching crew, etc. will be emailed to all who sign up.

Sunday, July 21 | Social Justice Plate: 490 Farmers

Our July SJP is designated for 490 Farmers. They seek to learn alongside residents and youth to build community, provide land access, and address food insecurity through urban agriculture. Guided by principles of mutual aid, they aim to steward a space where all feel welcome, pushing our city to a more equitable future. Please support this important work.

Voter Registration

The UU Community at Chautauqua plans to send 20,000 postcards with voting info to voters of color. Kathy Russell and Katherine Flynn will be there for a week and can bring packets back to our community to write. If you want to address and write the script for 20 postcards, let Kathy or Katherine know. We will distribute them at the end of July.

Joys & Sorrows

Please send your Joys and Sorrows to be read at our Sunday Worship service to JoysandSorrows@uuroc.org.

  • A Sorrow: Longtime church member, Larry Barnes, died recently. His memorial will be in Batavia. The date will be sometime in July. Larry was one of those amazing people who shepherded the major renovation at our church begun during the end of the Morrison-Reed/beginning of Beth Banks eras. He and his wife, Jerianne, were Co-Moderators of the Board, and faithfully led the church through some lean times. What a legacy!

  • A joy from Johanna Connelly: I spent last weekend thinking my little dog Duke was going to die. Something very mysterious, but after 3 vet visits, X-rays , shots, and medicine, he has gotten well! I am so, so, grateful.

Note: When you email a joy or sorrow to us, you are giving us permission to read it aloud at our Sunday service and possibly publish it in this weekly email. Thank you!
