Introducing Our New City Manager: Alyssa M. Muto

We are thrilled to announce the appointment of Alyssa M. Muto as the new City Manager of Solana Beach, effective May 6, 2024. Bringing a wealth of experience in sustainability, land use planning, and community engagement, Muto is is perfectly suited to this new role. 


Previously serving as the Director of the Sustainability & Mobility Department for the City of San Diego, Muto spearheaded transformative initiatives, including the completion of the Climate Action Plan Update and the launch of the Beach Bug circulator. Her strategic leadership and dedication to community involvement make her an ideal fit for Solana Beach.


"Alyssa Muto's proven track record of strategic leadership and commitment to help implement the Council’s projects, programs and policies," said Mayor Lesa Heebner. "Her innovative approach to sustainability, mobility, and land use planning align perfectly with our city's beach town values and vision for the future."


With a background in environmental consulting, planning, and project management, Muto brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her new role. A graduate of San Diego State University, she holds both a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration.


Muto's connections to Solana Beach run deep, having grown up in the area and attended Torrey Pines High School. Now, she and her family reside in a beach community, where they enjoy sand and water sports, running, and biking.

Citizen Commission Openings

Deadline to Submit is this Tuesday!

Hurry - only a few days left to submit your application and become a positive force in our community! The City is actively seeking volunteers for two important citizen commissions: Climate Action and Parks & Recreation. The Climate Action Commission has one professional position available for a two-year term expiring in January 2026, and the Parks & Recreation Commission has one vacancy with a term expiring in January 2025. Be sure to submit your applications to the City Clerk’s Office by this Tuesday, April 2nd, at 5:30 PM. Seize this opportunity to make a lasting impact in your community!

Annual Children’s Spring Festival & Egg Hunt

Rain or Shine!* Join hundreds of Solana Beach families this Saturday, March 30th, at La Colonia Community Park to celebrate the annual Children's Spring Festival and Egg Hunt. The main event is the Egg Hunt where boys and girls, in third grade or younger, will search for eggs filled with treats and prizes. Participants are asked to bring their own basket or decorative bag to collect the goodies. Fun jumps, crafts, pictures with the Spring Bunny, and piñatas will also be offered. Refreshments include lemonade, coffee, popcorn, and cookies.

*If it rains, most activities will be held inside with the exception of the actual egg hunt and special new train-ride attraction.

La Colonia Community Foundation

2024 Adelante Mujer Conference

Join the La Colonia Community Foundation next Saturday, April 6th, for the "Adelante Mujer" conference at the La Colonia Community Center. Adelante Mujer is an education, wellness, and empowerment conference for women and for teen girls. This empowering event offers workshops tailored for adult women and middle/high school teen girls. Adults can participate in "CPR/First Aid" training and "Women's Health and Wellness" sessions in Spanish. Teen girls will engage in workshops like "We are First Generation" and "Connection and Self Love." Register now for this transformative experience!

Solana Beach's First Bilingual Games Day

Join the City of Solana Beach and the Solana Beach Community Connections (SBCC) for an exciting event as we kick off our first Bilingual Games Day! This fun community event will take place at La Colonia Community Center on Thursday, April 11th from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Enjoy light refreshments and an array of games including Loteria, Scrabble, Dominoes, Uno, American Mahjongg, and Corn Hole. Bring a friend and spread the word! Reserve your spot today for a day filled with laughter and camaraderie. This is the first event of many being planned in this new partnership to bring more fun events and get-togethers for all members of the community. Stay tuned as more events are being planned!

AMR's "First On The Scene" Class

Acquire vital life-saving skills at AMR's "First on the Scene" class held on Saturday, April 13th, from 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM, at the Rancho Sante Fe Fire Station 2. During this class, you'll have the opportunity to learn and practice essential life-saving skills at absolutely no cost. This special program has been developed by the International Association of Fire Chiefs and will be administered by the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT). It's open to participants 14 years of age and up. Space is limited, so make sure to secure your spot by registering prior to the event. Don't miss this chance to equip yourself with life-saving skills that can make a difference.
