This Weekend & The Week Ahead

This Sunday, August 4

  • Practicing the Practice: Walk the Walk

9:15 - 10:10 AM

Many spiritual traditions, ancient and modern, utilize contemplative walks to bring people closer to the Creator and energy source of the universe. Jesus was especially fond of getting away on his own for a while. Join The Well's Guy Theriot and Regina Winters on the Plaza out back at 9:15 AM for a contemplative walk around the grounds with occasional stops in silence or for moments of reflection.

  • Baptism Prep Class Session 3

9:15 - 10:10 AM

All are welcome to join Rev. Vicki this Sunday downstairs in the High School room for her final baptism prep class where she'll be looking at Baptism in Symbols and Actions. If you desire to be baptized, we would love to "welcome you into the household of God."

  • Handbell Workshop

Noon - 2:00 PM

If you have never rung bells but are possibly interested in playing or if you're a current bell ringer wanting to improve your technique, please join for this workshop. No commitment is required to attend! Contact MaryDee Weigel, jmandmdweigel@aol.com, with any questions.

Bible Women Study Group

Continuing by Popular Demand

Next Monday, August 5

4:00 - 5:30 PM

Rev. Vicki is continuing the Bible Women Study Group for four Mondays in August (August 5, 12, 19, 26) in the Chapel. All are welcome in person, or click below to join via zoom. The group will again be using the book "Bible Women: All Their Words and Why They Matter - Expanded Second Edition" by Lindsay Hardin Freeman, but you don't have to have the book to attend. They will be studying Women of Leadership (Rahab, Deborah, Wise woman of Abel, Esther, Judith), Women of Hospitality (Sarah, Witch of Endor, Widow of Zarephath, Shunammite woman, Martha of Bethany), and Women of Joy (Anna, Elizabeth, Mary Magdalene).

August E-Tip

Beating the Heat

It’s been a hot summer, and everyone is looking for ways to keep cool. Unfortunately our go-to of air conditioning accounts for 7% of global electricity and upwards of 4% of all carbon emissions (twice as much as the entire aviation industry). How can you reduce your need for A/C?

  • Turn off the A/C and open all your windows after the sun goes down
  • Keep air moving with fans & install ceiling fans to push air down
  • Close all the windows and pull the shades on sunny windows, particularly in the early morning as the sun rises
  • Cook outdoors when possible
  • Change incandescent lights to LED bulbs
  • Use A/C only at strategic times of the day and try to set your thermostat higher than normal. A two-degree increase in your A/C temperature settings can reduce your energy consumption by 10%.

Put your “Faith Into Action” by joining Pikes Peak Habitat for an afternoon of service, fellowship, and fun on Saturday, August 24 helping to build a home for a local family in the Ridge at Sand Creek neighborhood. To learn more about the family (single mom Bernadette and her three children), CLICK HERE. This build is happening in the afternoon before the Rib-A-Palooza, so we would like to particularly challenge the men of the parish to do the important work of a carpenter before joining for dinner. IHN Hosting Week

September 1 - 8

Volunteer Jobs for All!

We are making solid progress filling the volunteer spots needed to effectively host families for a week at St. Mike's, but we still have many openings. A sometimes hard to fill position is overnight host, but don't be intimidated. It really is an easy role as you take over as the evening winds down and leave after setting out breakfast and cleaning up a bit. To learn more about all of the jobs - some that can happen on your own schedule during the week or even after the fact - please click below and/or contact one of our IHN Co-Leaders Kelly Belvis at kellydean0409@gmail.com or Andy Laffely at alaffely@msn.com with any questions.
