The Middle School Minute
Managing Middle School Emotions
Your Middle School Scholar is struggling to better understand and recognize their emotions. Here are a few tips to help with establishing a healthy outlook and coping with the emotional roller coaster.
-
Maintaining Composure: Have you ever felt like you are adding fuel to the fire? Providing space and time for reflection can go a long way to recognizing and resolving issues.
-
Re-establishing Boundaries: Be clear about what you want. Direct and specific communication about the expectations can help to teach and aid in discipline.
-
Standing Firm while expressing understanding: “But you don’t understand !” Once you have set clear expectations, it’s time to stick to good decisions. Giving in to pleading and tantrums will set you back in the journey to help manage emotions.
-
Redirect the energy: “The scholar supplies the power but the parents have to do the steering.” A strategy from Teaching with Love and Logic suggests offering choices that, you the parent, will be happy with is a win-win situation.

WE NEED YOUR HELP! We are currently at 12% school participation for Tax Credit!
Meeting our Tax Credit goal is imperative for the success of our Athletics, Field Trips and our Enrichment courses.
If you have not done so yet, don’t miss your chance to CHOOSE how a portion of your AZ state tax dollars are spent! Re-direct them to Trivium Prep before you file your 2023 AZ state tax return, and when you file, just complete Form 322 so that you can get your $200 or $400 Tax Credit added to your refund (or used to off-set anything you might owe the state if your taxes were underpaid in 2023). It’s that simple!!! Give today!

Announcing the Trivium Tax Credit Competition! Let's all race to gather the most tax credits for our school. This year we will be raffling off several prizes such as a Meta Quest 2 -128GB Gaming headset and Amazon gift cards to families who participate in the tax credit. Every additional tax credit your family refers to our school will be an additional entry in our raffle. Great thanks to Altered Combat who provided the Meta Quest 2 headset.
The Meta Quest 2 is a groundbreaking virtual reality headset that offers an immersive experience with 128GB of memory, capable of storing a vast library of games and apps. With its lightweight design, sharp display, and intuitive controls, it provides a seamless and comfortable VR experience for users of all ages. Its standalone operation, without the need for a PC or console, combined with a robust library of content ranging from gaming to educational apps, makes it a versatile choice for entertainment and learning. The Quest 2 is an accessible gateway into the world of virtual reality, offering endless possibilities for exploration and fun.
Good luck to all participants. March 20 will be our first raffle.
| | If you’ve already done your Tax Credit, then now is the time to ask all your AZ friends and family to do the same with their tax dollars! If we reach 50% participation, we will have mystery teachers and coaches in a dunk tank! | |

Outdoor Field Day Dress Code (from Family Handbook)
Just as the Academy provides guidelines for dress code in the classroom, it is important to project the image of professionalism in our athletic attire as well.
All shirts worn for athletic practices and field day should be modest, loose fitting, in good repair (no holes, torn sleeves, etc.), should be worn either tucked in or well over the waist of the pants/shorts if not tucked in. No midriffs may be shown. T-shirts are preferred—no tank tops, camisoles, or sports bras may be worn as outer-garments. Sleeveless shirts may be worn if modest.
Pants/shorts should be modest and in good repair (no holes, torn sleeves, etc.) Pants should be worn at the waist and should be no shorter than mid-thigh, and no-longer than just below the knee. No short-shorts or long baggy shorts may be worn. No boxers or undergarments may be visible. No yoga pants.
Attire should be free of inappropriate messages. Sports team logos (e.g., Diamondbacks, Notre Dame), and apparel brand names (e.g., Adidas, Nike) are acceptable, provided they do not make inappropriate allusions. These guidelines also apply to sweatshirts and jackets that students may wear. Footwear should be athletic in nature: no sandals, open-toed, or platform shoes. Hats and sunscreen may be appropriate if the students will be in the sun. Hat styles should follow the same guidelines as above.

Studies show that eating breakfast positively affects school performance. Students have better concentration and more energy.
- Kids who eat breakfast in the morning before a standardized test have significantly higher scores in math, spelling and reading than those who don't.
- Breakfast eaters have better brain function, memory, and attention.
- Eating breakfast improves kids' performance on vocabulary tests, math problems and challenging mental tasks. It also helps them deal better with frustration.
We are asking for parents help in making sure their scholar is eating breakfast every morning and either packing a lunch or getting one from My Hot Lunchbox.
We are asking for donations of tissues and snacks (granola bars, crackers) for the Health Office. Donations can be left in the front office labeled for the Trivium Prep Health Office. Thank you for the support in keeping our Knights healthy.
In partnership,
Christine Work, RN
