Memphis, TN—The Memphis Area Transit Authority has heard riders' concerns about slow, no-show buses and buses that break down before reaching their intended destination. MATA leadership points to an aging fleet they've struggled to maintain as the main culprit.
"We've added eight new buses to our fleet to provide shorter wait times and more efficient service to our riders," said Bacarra Mauldin, MATA interim CEO. "This is only the beginning. We have a lot of work to do, but with each step forward, we are closer to transforming transit for the Mid-South."
Mauldin says they are studying new, unique and cost-effective ways to expand inventory even further. She says the public can anticipate more announcements and advancements in the weeks and months ahead.
"We are working together with riders, MATA employees, community leaders and advocates to aggressively execute solutions," said Mauldin. "Our city's economic growth depends, in part, on effective transportation."
While Mauldin says they are moving in a positive direction, she still requests continued patience, saying it will take awhile for system-wide service improvements to be felt.
