Walker County/Huntsville Crime Stoppers Program, established in 1987, is an independent community-based, non-profit organization working in partnership with the Huntsville Police Department and the Walker County Sheriff Department. Crime Stoppers is an effective tool to fight crime to make the community a safer place for everyone.
The organization operates as an independent organization made up of a community board of directors which provides direction as to the financial and promotional activities of the program. The board of directors enhances the community involvement aspect, and its function is vital to the program’s success. Meetings are held on the second Monday of each month at 5:15 p.m. at City Hall.
Crime Stoppers provides a tip line phone. The phone is a standalone instrument which does not provide caller ID, and conversations are not recorded. Tipsters also have the option of giving tips online. The process is completely secure and anonymous and is a very effective and efficient means of safely communicating. All tipsters remain anonymous and are eligible to receive a cash reward, up to $1,000 if the information given leads to an arrest or indictment of a felony offender.
Crime Stopper Secretary, Tammy Gann said “My Chamber experience has exceeded my expectations. I have met some great people and developed new business relationships. The Chamber has a real sense of community among members, and I look forward to future involvement with the Chamber and the positive impact on the local Crime Stoppers organization”.
