Horse Project 2023-2024 4-H year
 
You have until June 1 to turn in your Horse Id papers.
 
 
Letter with the changes made in 2023.
They have been continued for 2024. Please be sure to read
the letter careful so you will know what needs to be done for you to
participate at your County & State Fairs.
 
Reminder that instead of Horse Level testing you will be required to complete the Horse Safety Webinar and pass the quiz to compete at your county fair. Both Linn & Miami County Horse Project 4-H members need to have this completed by July 1 in order to participate in their county fair.

 Annual Linn County Dog Show Cancelled
 
The Linn County Dog show planned for
Sunday, June 23 at the Linn County Fairgrounds
in Mound City, KS has been canceled.

Part of the fairgrounds was flooded during one of the big storms that Mound City had and part of their equipment
was ruined during the flood. The arena where they usually hold the event is not usable at this time.

Sorry for any inconveniences this may cause.
 
Cloverbuds/Sunshine Makers

Cloverbud meetings are in both Linn & Miami County locations. Both meetings will cover the same topics, so there is no need to attend both, you may attend the meeting in either county.
The topic for this month is Animals.

LNCO Cloverbud Meeting is June 6, 5:30 p.m. at the Linn County 4-H Building.

MICO Cloverbud Meeting is June 13, 5:30 p.m. at the Paola Extension Office.
Entomology Project Meeting
The next Entomology Project meeting is Saturday, June 8th at the Allen County Extension Office. We will have a split day. You can come for either session or both.

From 9 to 11 a.m. we will work on identifying insects you have caught, repairing insects that need to be glued back together and going over insect photos if you need to. We will break for lunch.

Then from 1 to 3 p.m. we will work on pinning, getting labels on insects and getting insects arranged in your display box.

This will also be the final opportunity to finished your dragonflies.

Final District YQCA

A YQCA certification is required in order for youth to show at the Linn or Miami County fair
in either Market and/or Breeding livestock (Beef, Swine, Goats, and Sheep.)

Our final in person YQCA for this year is on June 11 at 2:30pm @ Linn County Fairgrounds
in the 4-H building. This is the final YQCA the MdC District will have in person.

You must complete your YQCA by June 15.
Chopped Clover Edition -
Can you master our secret ingredient?

June 18, 2024 - 9:30am-1:30pm

Teams of 2-4 youth and 1 adult helper, (not all youth need to be in 4-H.) compete to make the best dish using our secret ingredient.

Juniors ages: 7-13 (before Jan 1, 2024)
Senior ages: 14-18 (before Jan 1, 2024)

There is a fee of $5 per team member to help cover the costs of ingredients and prizes.

We will be assigning a specific check-in time for each team so please provide a team contact that will then contact the rest of the team.



Cattle U is a one-day event full of educational opportunities for high plains cattlemen and women. Participate in educational sessions and networking opportunities with industry leaders to gain practical and valuable information.

District 4-H Camp Scholarships offered by Miami County 4-H Foundation
 
The Miami County 4-H Foundation is offering camp scholarships to any Linn or Miami County 4-H member who attends one of Rock Springs 4-H Camps. 

All enrolled 4-H members who attend a 4-H Camp this summer will receive $75 off a 3-night camp or $100 off a 5-night camp. To redeem the scholarship, use the code SunFun75 when registering for the 3-night camp or the code SunFun100 for the 5-night camp. 


If you have already registered, Rock Springs has applied the scholarships to your balance.

4-H Foods & Nutrition Rules for
the KSF & County Fairs
 
The new rule is as follows:  
For food safety purposes, any entries with frostings and fillings must calculate the amount of sugar in the frosting/filling recipe only.
 
Calculation must be attached to entry, or the placing will be lowered one ribbon when judged. Frosting and fillings need to contain more than 65% sugar for safety.

MICO Fair Pre-Entry

Starting June 1 you will be able to Pre-enter for the Miami County Fair. The MICO Fairbook has the class listing in it for your pre-entries. Check with your club leader to see if anyone has pick up your Fairbooks.

All MICO Fair pre-entries for 4-H, FFA & Open class are due by July 1.

On the Marais des Cygnes District website under the Miami County fair you can find other fair related information.

A New Miami County Fair Show Schedule Announced for the 2024 Miami County Fair!
The Miami County Fairboard has made several new changes to the 4-H/FFA Show Schedule.

Please check out the new schedule in this months 4-H Newsletter.

Visual Arts Project Changes: 
It is recommended to attach a 3x5 index card describing where you got the idea and what you did to make it your own. Exhibits without this will be lowered one ribbon placing. This must be attached to be eligible for State Fair Selection.

Pullorum-Typhoid Testing

The annual Pullorum-Typhoid testing requirements for the state of Kansas have been relaxed.

We are now testing every 5 years with the Marais des Cygnes District being scheduled for 2025.

The Miami County Fair and Linn County Fair will not require the testing for poultry showing in
4-H & Open class poultry shows in 2024.

LNCO 4-H Favorite Foods Contest-

Will now be part of the Fair during foods judging on the morning of Monday, August 5.

If you are a 4-Her enrolled in the Foods project, you are eligible to participate in the Favorite Foods Contest!

pre-entry for the Linn County Fair. It will not
be a separate RSVP. For more information, look in the Linn County Fairbook or visit the
 
Linn County Fair Clothing & Sewing Judging, 4-H Style Revue & Performing Arts Show - Saturday, July 27 at the First Baptist Church in Mound City.
 
Pre-registration forms for Style Revue and Performing Arts Show will be due by July 22.
