Director of Planning

Fluvanna County is seeking a full-time Director of Planning to perform complex professional and administrative work directing and coordinating all planning and zoning functions, programs, and activities of the county; doing related work as required. Serves as the County's subdivision Agent and Zoning Administrator, and provides oversight and supervision over all department staff. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Assistant County Administrator. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:   Plans, directs, coordinates, and supervises planning programs, services, staff, and functions; works collaboratively with department directors and County Administrator; provides staff and technical resource support to the Board of Supervisors, Planning Commission, and other boards and commissions as necessary. 

• Serves as the County’s Subdivision Agent and Zoning Administrator.
• Delegates and supervises the work of Planning Department staff; evaluates subordinates’ work performance and helps to implement career development plans.
• Establishes strategic and long-term planning goals including the preparation and implementation of the Comprehensive Plan
• Establishes department goals, policies, and procedures
• Reviews development applications such as re-zonings, special use permits, comprehensive plan amendments, zoning approvals, and zoning appeals and variances.
• Supervises and participates in preparing presentations, reports, ordinances and zoning requests for Board the of Supervisors and the Planning Commission.
• Counsels developers, engineers, surveyors, lawyers, real estate agents and other interested parties pertaining to re-zonings, subdivisions, site plans, etc.
• Collaborates with other department directors in completing projects and resolving problems.
• Mentors and provides guidance for department staff; interprets zoning and subdivision ordinances; coordinates staff assignments, and evaluates work performance.
• Serves as a professional advisor to the Planning Commission.
• Directs the preparation of an annual department budget; monitors expenditures; develops annual Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) in conjunction with the Director of Finance and County Administrator.
• Performs related tasks as required

2025 Reassessment

Pearson Mass Appraisal is beginning their reassessment work for 2025, and will be visiting each property in Fluvanna County. Appraisers will be visiting properties throughout the County from now until late 2024, and will be traveling in vehicles with "Fluvanna Reassessment" signs. Are you looking for a local mountain biking skills class to learn more about trail riding? You found it! If you are a rider that enjoys rolling around the neighborhood and would like to take your riding to the next level, this is where you belong. You will learn and practice basic mountain biking skills necessary to navigate the trail system at Pleasant Grove Park. The skills covered include body position, bike separation, shifting, braking, climbing, descending, and dealing with minor obstacles. We will also talk about trail user communication and trail etiquette.

You are welcome to bring your own trail ready bike or Fluvanna County Parks and Recreation can provide bikes and helmets. Schedule a tune up or a bike fitting by calling the Parks and Recreation office at 434-589-2016. Cost: $45 Age: 8-10

For a healthy mouth, children should see a dentist every six months. This dentist will watch and care for their teeth as the child grows. Brushing teeth or wiping gums twice a day can prevent tooth decay. Do not forget to limit sugar intake, as sugary foods can cause tooth decay. Let’s work together to make sure children have healthy smiles that last a lifetime!

Fluvanna County Public Schools will be holding Fluco Fest, our Spring into Summer Showcase a summer resources and information event for families. on Thursday, March 21st, 2024 from 5:30-8:00pm at the Fluvanna County High School. This will be an evening drop-in event with an emphasis on sharing resources, as well as to share outside of school summer programming and activities that are available in our area. Fluvanna Silver and Gold is a new group geared toward the 55+ crowd.

Meets at Ashlawn Club House every first Wednesday of the month, from 10-11:30. No fees. Open to all 55+ people in Fluvanna (not just the Lake).

Meet and greet from 10-10:30, then a meeting with guest speakers from 10:30 until around 11, and then group sign-ups and more socializing after. Snacks are provided.

The Facebook page is Fluvanna Silver and Gold. Other groups meet throughout the month. There are groups that walk, go to plays and theaters, wineries, local and international travel, book clubs, and anything else residents want to get involved with. 

Unlocking Help is an initiative to help save lives .

The program, started by Chris Zullo and the Lake Doers group at Lake Monticello; allows Fluvanna County residents to register a lockbox, extra key, garage door opener, or any other entry way to a home with local EMS to enter in case of emergency, so providers do not need to break in the home.



Residents can fill out the health form that is being distributed free at the Fluvanna library, Jefferson Pharmacy, and Fork Union Pharmacy to hang on the refrigerator with prescription, and, and allergy information for the EMS providers.

Lockboxes which hold a door key can be purchased for $10-$30 from local hardware stores or online. The Fluvanna Emergency Communications Center will register the code to open the lockboxes and provide it only to emergency personnel.
