This Weekend in Worship

These forty days called Lent are like no other. It is our opportune time to return to the God who rescues, to receive the gifts of God’s grace, to believe with the heart and confess with the mouth the wonder of God’s love in Jesus, and to resist temptation at every turn. This is no small pilgrimage on which we have just embarked. It is a struggle Jesus knew. It is a struggle Jesus shares. The nearness of the Lord, in bread and wine, water and word, will uphold and sustain us.

After School Arts Program Presentation

March 30

Did you know that thousands of children in greater Des Moines enjoy free classes in visual art, music, drama, dance, and other art forms through a small but highly impactful nonprofit organization called ASAP, the After School Arts Program? For 17 years, ASAP has been connecting young people with affirming opportunities to explore their own creativity, while removing barriers to arts participation, such as cost, transportation, language, and perceived non-belonging. ASAP began as an outreach ministry of St. John's Lutheran Church in downtown Des Moines, in response to a real need in the community at a time when the public school budget for arts was just $.33 per child per year. Join ASAP executive director and Faith Lutheran member Michelle Bolton King on March 30 at 9:30 to learn more about ASAP's exciting work and ways you can get involved.
