BRIDGEPORT PROSPERS NEWSLETTER

Dear Bridgeport Community,

As we step into March, we continue to celebrate the contributions of Black leaders, innovators, and changemakers—because Black history is American history, every day of the year. As we close Black History Month, we also look ahead to Women’s History Month, recognizing the incredible impact of women in our communities and beyond.

The Bridgeport Health Leaders program is in full swing! This nine-month initiative is focused on addressing health disparities and promoting health equity. Participants are engaging in workshops on community engagement and leadership while collaborating on a local health initiative to drive real change. Our most recent session explored the social drivers of health, sparking insightful discussions on how factors like housing, education, and economic stability impact well-being.

Bridgeport Prospers is also looking for a Parent Navigator to support families in accessing essential resources and services. If you're passionate about empowering parents and strengthening our community, check out this opportunity!

Stay connected with us for more updates, resources, and ways to get involved!

With gratitude and determination,

CT C2C COALITION & EQUITY UPDATES

The Connecticut General Assembly convened early to approve $40 million in additional special education funding in response to rising costs, but Governor Lamont may veto it, citing budget limits. This highlights the growing tension over state spending priorities.

The Coalition continues advocating for key equity-focused policies, submitting testimony on bills supporting transit-oriented communities, school meals, early educator pay, child tax credits, and children's behavioral health. Several bills are advancing through committees, signaling positive momentum.

Public hearings on early childhood care, special education, and healthcare access are coming up. Support these efforts by submitting written testimony—contact our Coalition Policy Director to get involved.
