The following new pledging guide, originally developed by a UU church in Kalamazoo, Michigan uses the colors of the rainbow to show levels of pledges that consider overall financial circumstances instead of % of income. Of course, you can also consult the traditional UUA Suggested Fair-Share Giving Guide on the UUA website.
Whatever amount you can contribute, you will help us continue to hold up our chalice as a beacon of light in these turbulent times. Thank you for your generous contributions of time, talent, and treasure!
RAINBOW PLEDGE LEVELS
The color categories below represent different household financial realities.
We hope this guide is helpful as you decide your amount to pledge this year.
Orange*: An orange pledge is from a household with a small amount of extra money. Orange pledges may come from someone supporting a large family or that has low income. People in this category are encouraged to make some financial commitment and give more when they can. An orange pledge is $1-60 per month, $12-720 per year.
Yellow: A yellow pledge is from a household that has a modest income or that may have an income that fluctuates. A yellow pledge is $60-108 per month, $720-1,300 per year.
Green: A green pledge is from a household that has adequate income and resources for discretionary spending. A green pledge is $125-300 per month, $1,500-3,600 per year.
Blue: A blue pledge is from a household that is financially comfortable, perhaps with a well-paying job, a robust retirement fund or other assets, and with a significant amount of discretionary income. A blue pledge is $400-640 per month, $4,800-7,700 per year.
Purple: A purple pledge is from a household with significant, stable income and who may own more than one home or other assets. A purple pledge is $690-830 per month, $8,300-10,000+ per year.
Trust or Legacy Gifts: All pledgers are encouraged to consider gifts from their Trusts, retirement accounts, or other assets that will live on beyond us and support our future. Please talk to our Treasurer, Chuck Torrey, or your financial advisor about how to do this.
* Sometimes committed members cannot make a financial commitment to the church due to difficult financial circumstances. If this is your household’s situation, please still fill out a pledge form to let us know that you are not able make a pledge this year. You are also invited to speak with our caring connection members or our minister about any assistance that will help you get by, connect to community resources, or pastoral care.
