ANCHORING We are anchored in Christ-centered relationships.

PEACE PRESCHOOL

Peace started last month by talking about “Transportation “. The children learned to graph all types of transportation – land, water, and air. Even the classrooms were turned into an airport play center. The children had such fun as they took a pretend airplane ride while the ‘flight attendant’ handed out their snacks. The highlight of the week was when the teachers created a fun track in our gym so the kids could ride their bikes and scooters. It was unusual for the parents to walk in with their student’s vehicle but a huge success for all. The teachers were glad to report it was an accident-free day and no speeding tickets were handed out!

A very special Science Day last month involved the Solar Eclipse. The children were extremely interested in learning all about this phenomenon and enjoyed the art projects that went along with it. The NASA short video especially helped the students learn fun facts about the sun and even the snacks were a hit - Moon Pies and Sunbursts! Everyone agreed it was a- “sunsational” Day!

Another special happening at Peace Preschool in the month of April is our Mothers’ Spring Program. It involves 3 wonderful offerings the children give their moms. All month they practiced and worked hard on their gifts to make this day, one to cherish. The first part of the day is singing 3 “mommy songs” – some silly and some with a love message, all heartfelt by the moms. A big “shout out” to Laura Ezersky for being our 2nd pianist for our program. We appreciate her taking time out of her day to help us out. She did a great job! Next the children present a play taken from one of our favorite books: “Are You My Mother?” or “Ask Mr. Bear.” After a ‘round of applause’ for the darling performance, the moms are presented with sweet gifts: a canvas art project that each child made, a fingerprint magnet and a portrait the child made of their mother. Lots of hugs and kisses end this precious day that will certainly be remembered for years.

I am so thankful for all our amazing teachers that work so hard to make preschool a wonderful experience for all our special days. We still have several openings for the Fall so keep referring families. Thanks so much!

In Christ’s Love, Miss Sonya

YOUTH

LOFT - Letting Our Faith Thrive

All 6th grade - 12th grade students are invited to gather on Wednesday nights at 6:00 p.m.

Youth Group Happenings

It feels like we are just getting back into a “normal” routine after the Lenten season. Now the energy is building with most of our students as the end-of-school-year activities and work are upon them. Papers to write, tests to take, final school responsibilities met… let’s keep all the students in our prayers over the next few weeks.

We will have a lesson later in May on what it means to be salt and light in the world. I want the youth to know how vital their role is as they walk out of their faith for others to see. They have such influence with friends and family, that sharing their faith can have a great impact.

In April we celebrated birthdays, had a movie night (watched the latest Kung Fu Panda), and enjoyed a sundae bar. We began our study on the book of Philippians using Rooted Ministries curriculum. It seems to be a great fit for our group, both the adults and students are gleaning a lot from the study. For the summer months, we will turn our attention to Knowing Jesus in a 10-week study.

The mission trip to Seattle trip had to be canceled because we couldn’t get enough students to go. Hopefully, there will be more interest next year.

I leave you with our focus verse for the summer kick-off from Matthew 5:13-16.

“You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people's feet."

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven."

Stay strong in the Lord,

Christy Jackson, PLC youth director

Disaster Relief - Texas Panhandle Fires

Peace Lutheran volunteers help load the truck bound for the Texas Panhandle in February 2024.

Julie Hostetler met with volunteers at the Texas Disaster Relief warehouse.

The town of Sulphur was hit by an EF3 tornado on Saturday, April 27, 2024. Most of the historic downtown was destroyed along with many houses on the east side of town.

By Tuesday, the Peace Disaster Team had called in volunteers to help load all the supplies from the warehouse that were needed and sent the truck down to Sulphur that morning.

Below you will see pictures of the Murray County Expo center full of donations, not just from Peace but from all over the area.

The volunteers were grateful for our donations and willing to help us unload the truck!

The many donations of clothing and household supplies were an amazing show of the love of God.

Special thanks to these High School students for their help unloading our packed 26 foot UHAUL truck!
