Mescalero, New Mexico Youth Mission Trip July 12th - 20th

Tim Buck

If you want to help our mission team in a specific and meaningful way, we have a unique opportunity you may want to invest in. While on our mission trip, we will be sleeping on air mattresses in classrooms at the Mescalero Apache School just down the road from the reservation. While there, the team will purchase mattresses, pillows, and some blankets to use during their stay at the church. Then at the end of the mission trip, the teens plan to continue their long-standing tradition of donating these items along with many other ministry supplies and tools to a local shelter or non-profit partner.

Please check out the list below of items still needed for the Youth Mission Trip.

We suggest the following donation amounts:

  • $2.50 Paint Tray Liner (15)
  • $6 Paint Tray (5 needed)
  • $9 for a pillow (10 2 needed)
  • $12 for a blanket. (10 needed)
  • $27 5-Gallon Water Cooler (2)
  • $59 Coleman Lunch Cooler with wheels (2 1 needed)
  • $69 donation will purchase a raised twin mattress that comes with its own internal electric plug making it so much easier for a shelter to keep them inflated. (10 2 needed)
  • $84 Cordless Drill with battery, charger, and supplies (2 1 needed)
  • Other - Ministry supplies as needed, like shovels, extension cords, a jigsaw, etc. (approx. $500 $60 still needed)

Many of you may have seen heartbreaking images on TV this past week of the recent wildfire devastation throughout New Mexico. One of these ongoing fires (The Salt Fire) is still burning parts of the Mescalero Apache Reservation where our team will serve. There are several critical needs that we have been asked to meet. To help meet this immediate need, with your help, we will purchase and distribute the following items when we arrive at the reservation.

  • Dental hygiene items (floss, toothbrushes, toothpaste, etc.)
  • Toiletries (soaps, deodorants, combs, etc.)
  • Diapers, wipes, baby formula, etc.
  • Feminine hygiene products
  • Socks and underwear of all ages/sizes
  • Non-perishable individually packaged food items like granola bars, beef jerky, trail mix, crackers, Gatorade, etc.

Will you consider making an additional donation to help us make this possible? If so, please write "Youth Mission Trip" on the memo line of your donation.

A Word from Worship

Greetings New Life Church family and friends,

I wasn't sure if I'd be able to get an article written this week. As many of you know, when you are trying to navigate a new and challenging (and often terrifying) journey like this, there seems to be an ever-changing experience of ups and downs! This past week was a perfect example of life right now.  This past week was tricky to start with since I had not one but four medical appointments/procedures necessary for my numerous medical situations. Since Life is anything but simple right now, each of these take coordination of rides, not only for these, but also for times I wanted to be in my office for meetings etc. First, let me say, you all have been wonderful and have blessed us whenever we've needed help with anything. I've mentioned before that in the midst of terrifying things happening when least expected, God has blessed us in huge ways repeatedly. This week was a perfect example. So Don has been feeling a little better recently - more energy and able be up and around doing some things that he loves. Many of you saw him in church for worship last Sunday which was a huge gift.  He was able to come with me for my appointment last Monday and things seemed almost a little more normal. Then came Tuesday which began with an early morning ride to church where every 3 months my nurse who monitors my implanted medication pump was scheduled to see me between 10 and 11 o'clock to flush and refill my pump. She sees me in my office because it's closer for her route of other patients and usually more convenient for me because I can work while waiting for her. Then the day began to go downhill rapidly.  The nurse calls and says they have a huge backlog and my medication hasn't even arrived yet and it was going to be later afternoon before she could get to me. So Don (who had come along with me and our daughter-in-law to get out of the house) decided to take a walk around the Life Center. Well, as he walked, he stubbed his toe and fell. My heart sank as I look at him with a huge goose egg swelling above his eye. After a quick moment of prayer that he be okay, I was quickly reminded of God's grace and mercy. It could have so much worse. Hitting his head/face on the floor like that and his glasses didn't break at all is a miracle. He looks like he was hit by a truck but his vision is okay. He has no headache or after effects like that. After a visit to the Walk-in Clinic and trip for an emergency CT scan which told us there was no brain/head bleed going on he was back home again.  Of course he has the worst black and purple eye I've ever seen. But once again, we are praising God for His blessings. And yes, I eventually got a ride from the emergency clinic with my granddaughter while our daughter-in-law took Don for his scan, so I was able to get my pump procedure taken care of.  While these unexpected crisis situations throw me into a panic, a return to prayer helps me to think more clearly one of the reasons I'm always felt drawn to prayer is that it's a private one on one element of faith. For someone like me who has struggled with self-confidence issues, it's a positive because I don't have to worry about anyone telling me I'm doing something the wrong way. It's easy to communicate with God during quiet moments which is so powerful for me. God's gift of this spiritual connection have helped me through some very difficult times.

Update: Don has an appointment with Dr. Browne on Friday afternoon so I will ask for prayer that whatever treatment plan we hear will be God driven, and fulfill Don's desire to be able to return to serving our Lord. I thank you for your prayers and loving support.

I'm praying for you!
