Grace and peace,
Earlier this week, I had a great conversation with a long-time parishioner who retired a few years ago to North Carolina. During the discussion, I thought of all the St. John’s friends who would love to hear about our conversation. I also recognized at the same time that a large portion of our congregation would say “Tim who?”. This reaction would be perfectly normal considering how many people at St. John’s could be considered “new”; and that is such a blessing for all.
Our post-Covid membership looks very different. This realization reminded me of the importance that we take time, intentionally, to share in fellowship and learn more about each other. Our Baptismal Covenant calls us to continue in the Apostles’ teaching and fellowship, in the breaking of the bread, and in the prayers. While the breaking of the bread explicitly refers to Holy Eucharist, it also implicitly refers to sharing meals together.
This month, on Pentecost, 19 May, we will share a meal together following the 10:30 service. Taking a clue from the many languages spoken during Pentecost, we hold an International Potluck Brunch. The first year that we held this event, we had over three dozen countries represented.
Please bring a dish from your country of origin, or country of heritage, to share. Come and enjoy the international delights and learn more about the people of St. John’s.
Break bread together and share in the fellowship. Come to the Pentecost International Potluck and be curious – I promise that you will be delighted with both the food and the people of St. John’s.
Peace
Fr. Henry+
