Bike Month is a time to recognize the numerous benefits of cycling, from improving fitness and reducing carbon emissions to fostering community connections. It's a chance to explore the world on two wheels, feel the wind against your face, and rediscover the simple pleasure of pedaling. Throughout May, a wide range of events and activities are planned to engage and inspire cyclists of all ages and abilities. Whether you're a seasoned cyclist or just starting out, Bike Month offers a plethora of opportunities to get involved, have fun, and make a positive impact! Here is a list of bike walk events held locally in Solana Beach: | |

Boost your confidence in sharing the road with vehicle traffic in Solana Beach and along the coast by attending local Smart Cycling classes! These classes comprise two sessions. The first is a 3-hour Classroom Session held this Tuesday, May 7th, and the second is a 6-hour Road Session held on Saturday, May 11th, that applies what you learned in the classroom to real-world scenarios. Solana Beach residents who sign up and complete both sessions will receive a full refund of their $50 fee! | |
SANDAG Bike Anywhere Day (formerly known as Bike to Work Day) is back! Join thousands and ride your bike to work, school, the beach, or anywhere in the San Diego region on Thursday, May 16th. Be sure to stop by the Solana Beach pit stop held at Solana Beach Electric Bike from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM to pick up a free t-shirt. Everyone who signs up to participate in the free event will be automatically entered for the chance to win an e-bike, courtesy of Velotric. | |

Solana Beach Community Ride | Join BikeWalkSolana for the 4th annual Tour of Solana Beach Community Ride on Sunday, May 25th. The event starts at La Colonia Park at 10:00 AM. From there the group will pedal through the lovely neighborhoods of Solana Beach at a leisurely pace. Previous tours had well over 100 people and more riders are expected this year, so please register in advance! | |
Mark your calendar now for the May 26th Family Fun Ride, co-sponsored by the Solana Beach PTA and BikeWalkSolana. Join a parade of other families on bikes meeting at a location to be determined in the morning and cycling along a flat 2-3 mile route along the Coastal Rail Trail and Hwy 101. Decorate your bike or wear a costume, if you’d like! | |

BikeWalkSolana Scavenger Hunt | The BikeWalkSolana Scavenger Hunt is now underway with over 120 participants already registered for this fun event. Register now to receive your scavenger package and explore our charming seaside city on foot. Participants will answer questions about Solana Beach's intriguing history to be entered to win fun prizes. This self-guided 3.5-mile Walking Scavenger Hunt can be completed at any time throughout the month of May. | |
City Hall Gallery Opening Reception | |
Join the City and the Public Arts Commission this Saturday, May 4th, from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM for a special opening reception of the newest City Hall Gallery Exhibit "The Long Years" by Christopher Lloyd Tucker. Tucker's distinctive artistic blend of woodwork, metalwork, and digital art is showcased in his recent creations, where he transforms digital drawings into three-dimensions by assembling laser-cut exotic hardwoods or multicolored acrylic sheets into mosaic-like artworks, elegantly framed within hardwood. Come to meet the artist and view this remarkable exhibit this weekend or during regular business hours until June 30th. | |

Join the City and Solana Beach Community Connections for another exciting Bilingual Games Day! This monthly community event will be held at La Colonia Community Center on Thursday, May 9th, from 12:00-2:00 PM. Come enjoy a variety of games, including Lotería, Scrabble, Dominoes, Uno, American Mahjongg, and Corn Hole. Bring along a friend and help spread the word! This is just the second event in a series of many planned as part of our new partnership, aimed at bringing more fun and get-togethers for all members of the community. | |
Spring Bulky-Item Cleanup Day | |
Registration has begun this week for the annual Spring Bulky-Item Curbside Cleanup event on Saturday, May 11th. Once again, the City has partnered with EDCO to provide residents with the opportunity to dispose of trash, green waste, and up to four bulky items that cannot fit inside regular collection carts. These items can include broken appliances, water heaters, furniture, old mattresses, and other bulky household clutter. Residents can now register for this curbside pick-up event by calling (858) 350-8544. Remember to place all items curbside by 7:00 AM on Saturday, May 11th for collection. | |

This month's program includes music by Peter Seltser, a Mission Focus with Lani Curtis, French music by Adrienne Nims & Mark Danisovszky, Lessons Learned Around the World with Chiuyee Ho, and more! Plus, stay connected with their Feeling Fit Club, Book Club, Silver Age Yoga, and Ginny’s Sewing Fellowship.
