Encouragement from Pastor William Lewis

God appreciates us standing up for Him. But the Lord loves it when we let Him fight for us. When we go to prayer the Lord extends His Hand on our behalf. Prayer is allowing the Lord to step in and fight for us and through us.

The Hebrew word contend is two dimensional, referring both to physical and verbal combat. In terms of physical combat, God is like a mother bear that protects her cubs. As the apple of God’s eye, we are covered under His loving care. In terms of verbal combat God is like the defense attorney that pleads our case and cause. Revelation 12 says Satan is the accuser of the brethren, but he is no match for the One who defends us-- Jesus.

We actually have three intercessors: 1st The Holy Spirit intercedes on our behalf with groans too deep for words (Romans 8:26). Which means before we woke up this morning the Spirit of God surrounds us in prayer. 2nd we also have Jesus praying and interceding for us (Romans 8:34). 3rd According to Hebrews 1:14 “The angels of God exist to support the heirs of salvation.” With so much support from the heavenly realm we are empowered to pray for the will of God to be accomplished for us and through us.

In 1774, the Continental Congress held its first official meeting in Philadelphia. Their first official act was prayer. This was not a perfunctory act of protocol; it was a good old fashioned prayer meeting. Our Founding Fathers prayed with fervency and intensity. These revolutionaries knew their cause was doomed to fail without divine intervention. They prayed like it depended on God.

Guess what, our prayers do not have expiration date. We can still ask for God’s intervention for our nation! Let’s pray knowing God contends for us!
