Happy April!

Congratulations!

Nereida Delgado Garcia, one of our College Student Leaders, has been awarded the Anthony and Charlotte Haartz Marinelli/Vincenzo Bollettino Scholarship. The $5,000 scholarship is awarded to outstanding students enrolled as Latin American and Latino Studies majors or minors in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Montclair State University.

In addition, Nereida was recently elected to serve as President for 2024-2025 of the Mexican-American Student Association at Montclair.

Michelle Carpinteyro, a College Student Leader and rising senior at Emory University, has been selected for the New Jersey Governor’s Hispanic Fellows Program for Summer 2024. This prestigious and selective internship includes a $3,700 stipend, practical, hands-on experience at an exciting placement site, guest presentations by leading professionals, as well as other unique skill-building opportunities. Michelle will be working at Bristol Myers Squibb as an IT Validation Services Intern, learning about application testing and developing test planning documents for various applications.

AP Exams

Many of our Fellows are dealing with AP Exams. One of the strategies for success they are employing is journalling.

Ask a Question!

Question: What are juniors working on?

Answer:

Juniors have been preparing their brag sheets and practicing to ask for letters of recommendation from teachers and counselors.

Question: What are seniors working on?

Answer:

Seniors should have completed their FAFSA and HESAA applications. They may not yet have all the information they need to make final decisions, but they know how to read these documents and should be talking with families about their goals and finances. Many of them are also writing appeal letters and reaching out to express continued interest if they were waitlisted.
