Our Mission Statement

Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a Catholic Community. Our mission is to welcome all in Jesus' name and live out our faith as His Disciples.

We worship, proclaim the Gospel to all, and help those in need.

5th Sunday of Easter, Remove what does not bear fruit, https://www.abvmpasadena.org/

Dear Friends!

As we reflect on this past Sunday's Gospel reading, we are reminded of the profound truth that the Father desires us to bear much fruit (Jn 15,1-8). Like a diligent vine grower anticipates abundant harvest, God has specially chosen and appointed each of us to go forth and bear fruit that will endure.

Through the sacrament of baptism, we have been grafted onto the true vine, Christ Himself. Our connection with Him is the cornerstone of bearing fruit that brings joy to the Father's heart. Saint Francis de Sales beautifully articulates, "Apart from [Christ], we can do nothing."

Living within God's grace, our acts of virtue blossom into pleasing fruits offered to the Father. It's not about our individual accomplishments but about allowing Christ to illuminate through us. Each act of kindness, each instance of love, becomes a testament to Christ's presence within us.

Yet, let us heed the caution in John 15:6. Those who drift away from Christ, forsaking His grace through sin, risk spiritual decline. Let us endeavor to remain steadfastly connected to the vine, vibrant with the life of Christ dwelling within us.

May the Virgin Mary, our nurturing Mother, and steadfast Guide, intercede for us as we journey forward. May she assist us in growing in grace so that we may yield abundant fruit, bringing glory to the Father.

In hope and faith,

Fr. Mike

GO AND BEAR FRUIT THAT WILL REMAIN

(John 15:14)

6th Sunday of Easter

Dear ABVM Parish Community,

As we gather on this last Sunday before the solemnities of the Ascension and Pentecost, closing the Easter season, let us reflect on the profound significance of this moment. Throughout these Sundays, the risen Jesus has graciously revealed himself as the Good Shepherd, guiding and protecting us, and as the vine to which we must be firmly connected, drawing sustenance and life.

Today, our hearts are invited to dwell within the sacred chamber of Christ's Heart, a space overflowing with boundless love. For in His Heart, we encounter the essence of God Himself, which is Love. From the dawn of creation to the pinnacle of redemption, every act of God has been a symphony of love, reaching its crescendo in the outstretched arms of Christ on the cross.

"Remain in my love," He tenderly whispers to us (Jn 15:9). These words, simple yet profound, beckon us into a divine dialogue of love. Love, the very fabric of our existence, asks for reciprocity, inviting us to respond with ever-deepening affection to His unending love.

In embracing this divine love, we find the wellspring of joy. "I have told you this so that my joy may be in you," He declares (Jn 15:11). This joy, rooted in faith and nurtured by love, becomes the hallmark of our discipleship. Even amidst life's storms and trials, the abiding presence of the Lord fills us with an enduring joy that surpasses all understanding.

Let us remember that it is God who first chose us. "I chose you," He affirms (Jn 15:16). In His infinite wisdom and mercy, He has called us not as slaves but as friends, inviting us into the sacred circle of His divine friendship. Like a gentle breeze, His love envelops us, drawing us ever closer to Him.

In the grand tapestry of existence, love is the golden thread that binds all virtues together. As Saint Augustine eloquently reminds us, charity is the highest commandment, the essence from which all other virtues flow. Through love, we are transformed, becoming beacons of light and vessels of grace in a world yearning for hope and renewal.

So, as we journey forth from this sacred encounter, let us carry within us the flame of divine love, illuminating the path ahead. For in love, we discover the true essence of life—the essence of God Himself. Amen.
