Upcoming Events

Spring Book Sale


The Friends of the Dover Public Library are having a book sale on Friday, May 3 and Saturday, May 4th from 9am to 5pm and Sunday, May 5 from 1-5pm. We will have hundreds of books and DVDs for sale in the Library Lecture Hall. Fiction, non-fiction, biographies, DVDS, kids’ books, cookbooks and more. Items will be priced at $3 or under, and all proceeds go to the Friends of the Dover Public Library to support programs and museum passes. On Monday, May 6th, all leftovers will be free! Don’t miss it!

Crafter Morning: Woven Potholders or Decorate a Picture Frame


On Saturday, May 4 at 11am, kids ages 5 and up are invited to join us in the Activity Room to weave a potholder or decorate a picture frame. A potholder or decorated picture frame would make a nice gift for someone! Please pre-register for this event.

Elementary Exploration: Robot Petting Zoo


On Wednesday, May 8 at 3:30pm, kids in grades K - 4 are invited to join us after school for a fun, engaging STEM event. This month we will have a Robot Petting Zoo! This will be a hands-on opportunity to test out some of the robots & STEM technology that Dover Public Library has. This includes Botley: The Coding Robot, the Sphero Mini, and our Indi Car. Some of these robots will become part of our Children's Room Library of Things later in the month.

Quiet Time: A Group for Parents and Caregivers of Young Children


On Thursday, May 9 & 23 at 6pm, parents and caregivers of young children are invited to join us in the Library's Trustees Room for this relaxed, open forum community group. 

Spring STEM Gardening Event


Join us on Saturday, May 11 at 11am in the Library's Lecture Hall for this fun program! We'll explore the science of plants, flowers, dirt, seeds, and growing things. Participants will have the opportunity to get their hands dirty, and bring home their own planted seeds. All are welcome to participate in this family STEM program.

Family Game Night


Join us on Wednesday, May 15 from 6-8pm in the Lecture Hall to play a fun selection of card & board games, and meet other board game enthusiasts in the community! You’re also welcome to bring your own games. All ages welcome!

LEGO Club


Join us on Saturday, May 18 at 2pm for LEGO Club! Kids ages 5 and up can work on a specific "challenge-of-the-day" or build their own creations.

Evening of Poetry


The Dover Public Library cordially invites you to attend an “Evening of Poetry” on Monday, May 20 at 6:30pm! All poets who participated in the library’s 22nd Annual Poetry Contest are invited to read their poetry at this event. The general public is encouraged to come and enjoy the readings. This event will take place on the library lawn (rain location is the library's Lecture Hall). 

Series of the Month Club


Are you a fan of the Press Start! series by Thomas Flintham? If you are in 2nd or 3rd grade and have read one or more books in the Press Start! series come meet with other fans to talk about these popular books on Tuesday, May 21 at 3:30pm. First graders who have read a book from the series are welcome to join us as well. We will also make a craft related to the series. This a monthly program that highlights a different series each month. Please pre-register for this program.

Family Storytime: Field Trip Edition


Come join us on Wednesday, May 22 at 10am for family storytime at the Riverside Rest Home (located at 276 County Farm Road in Dover)!Children of all ages with caregivers are invited to attend this program which includes stories, fingerplays, songs, and puppets.

On Wednesday, May 1, 8, 15, & 29 at 10am, children of all ages with caregivers are invited to attend this program which includes stories, fingerplays, songs, and puppets. No registration is required.

Arts & Crafts Storytime


On Thursday, May 2, 9, 16, 23, & 30 at 10am, children ages 3-6 who are ready to attend storytime independently, without a caregiver, are invited to Arts & Crafts Storytime. Each session will focus on a different theme. Register for this Thursday series to explore arts and crafts. Books, songs, rhymes, and an art activity will all be part of the fun!

Multilingual Book Group


On Thursday, May 2 at 4pm, UNH’s Community Literacy Center has partnered with Dover Adult Learning Center! This program will feature an interactive read-aloud in a different language each week, as well as a related art activity. This program is geared towards families of children in grades K - 3. No registration required, just show up! 

STEM Storytime

On Monday, May 6, 13, & 20 at 10am, children ages 3-5 are invited to participate in a science storytime. Our preschool programs are designed for children to learn independence from their caregivers, therefore children attend without an adult. Each week we will focus on a different theme, using STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) to support the books, songs and activities of the storytime. Registration is required.

Mother Goose on the Loose


On Tuesday, May 7, 14, 21, & 28 at 10am, babies through 2 years and their parents/caregivers are invited to Mother Goose on the Loose, a 30 minute program with nursery rhymes, songs, puppets, other props and short stories. A joyful and fun gathering that promotes early literacy skills. No registration is required.

Big Kids Storytime


On Monday, May 13 at 4pm, kids in grades K-2 are invited to join us for a storytime with more in-depth, challenging picture books, followed by a craft. Registration is required.
