LEADERSHIP IN ACTION

Some of St. Luke’s sophomores and juniors recently took part in Auburn’s “High School Leadership Conference,” diving into an inspiring journey of growth and empowerment. Through engaging breakout sessions, impactful guest speakers, service learning, and dynamic team-building exercises, our students are honing the skills needed to lead with confidence and character.

They’ve returned with fresh perspectives, ready to make a positive impact in their school and community. Here’s to our future leaders stepping up and shining bright!

A NIGHT TO REMEMBER: ZZZ'S BY THE SEA

AT THE MISSISSIPPI AQUARIUM

Girl Scouts Raegan Adlington and Emmi Miniard attended the Mississippi Aquarium's ZZZ's by the Sea event.  There, they embarked on an unforgettable journey through the state’s freshwater and marine habitats, learning about the incredible creatures that call these environments home. The Girl Scouts enjoyed hands-on educational activities, creative crafts, and thrilling animal encounters. The night was packed with adventure. Each girl had the opportunity to roast marshmallows and make s' mores by the fire, sharing stories under the stars before settling in for a cozy night surrounded by the wonders of the deep. The Girl Scouts from Troop 8743 left with lasting memories, a commemorative patch, and a newfound appreciation for Mississippi’s aquatic life.

ST. LUKE'S JUNIOR CLASS EXPERIENCE JAG DAY

AT THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH ALABAMA

St. Luke's junior class had an amazing adventure on Jag Day at the University of South Alabama! Thanks to President Bonner, our students got the VIP treatment with a special bus ride, exciting campus tours, delicious food, and unforgettable memories. From exploring various colleges to hearing from campus leaders to spending time with South Paw on the beautiful football field, they truly embraced the Jaguar spirit, "J's Up!"

ARIANA ORI'S JOB SHADOW: HALL THERAPY SERVICES

Ariana Ori's Biomedical Sciences job shadow: Senior, Ariana job shadowed Brent Hall, OTR/L, Cert. MDT, at Hall Therapy Services, where she observed him treating three patients with various injuries.

The first patient was recovering from a finger amputation caused by a machine accident. The therapy focused on reducing swelling and restoring motion. Treatment included paraffin wax therapy to warm the hand, stress ball exercises to stimulate movement, and a sensory exercise using rice to re-educate the tissue. The patient also practiced pinching and screwing bolts to improve dexterity.

The second patient had a severe hand laceration from a box cutter, which resulted in two severed tendons. Mr. Hall used paraffin wax therapy and explained the benefits of a custom hand brace and scar mold. He encouraged finger flexion to improve mobility and massaged the tissues to loosen scar adhesions. If the scar tissue did not release, he noted that a tenolysis procedure might be necessary.

The third patient experienced hip and shoulder pain. Mr. Hall applied electroshock therapy and rotational forces to assess and manage pain. He focused on shifting discomfort from the hip to the back and guided the patient through arm exercises to achieve a pain-free range of motion between 90 and 120 degrees.

ST. LUKE'S STUDENTS ATTEND THE DRUG EDUCATION COUNCIL'S 2025 YOUTH SUMMIT AT GULFQUEST

St. Luke's students joined forces with over 120 peers from Baldwin and Mobile County to tackle youth drug issues head-on. With interactive sessions from Mobile County Team Sheriff and Dr. Jack Shelley-Tremblay from the University of South Alabama, our students developed innovative plans to create a healthier, safer future.
