Upcoming Service

It's Not Too Late to Fix this Mistake: A Conversation with the EarWitness Podcast

Jaimie Dingus

10:45 a.m., Sunday, April 28, 2024

Ours is a faith rooted in covenant, where when harm happens, we can address it and then return to relationship. How different would our world be if our legal system took that approach! UUCH is joined by guests from the Ear Witness Podcast who will share the real life story of Toforest Johnson, a man wrongly convicted and put on death row. Together we will explore how mistakes like this can happen in our legal system, and learn together how the wrong could be undone!

Choir News

Sing with the UUCH Choir! We rehearse most Sundays after church and we would love to welcome YOU to the group! No experience is necessary, just come and sing! Choir rehearsal this Sunday is at 12:10, after coffee hour.

Nursery Care

Nursery care will be available during the service
from 10:30-12:15.

Little ones can be signed in and out upon arrival and departure in the RE wing.

Pre-K-5th & 6th-12th

The theme of the month is The Gift of Interdependence. Whereas last week we explored the importance of caring for the earth and nature, in this session, we explore how our Earth and the web of creatures and creation take care of us! Children will have the opportunity to explore how nature is a gift and how being in it and connected to it allows us to live, thrive, and feel cared for.

Summer Plans

In previous years at UUCH, adults would volunteer to teach a class during the summer and present a topic or skill of their choosing. We will be attempting to do this again for the months of June and July. Classes will include ages pre-k all the way up to high school seniors. If this sounds intimidating, don’t worry, CYRE teachers will still be available to assist. If there are any supplies that you would like to have provided, please contact dre@uuch.org. You can find the signup here, and thank you so much for contributing to the success of our CYRE program!

PARTY!!!

Please join us at Stars and Strikes on Saturday May 4, 2024 as we celebrate the end of the school year and church year with arcade games, laser tag, and bumper cars. We welcome all children from our CYRE program along with any friends, families, or neighbors they might want to bring along. The party will start with food and cake from 12:30 – 1:30 PM and last until you have run out of game cards. Please fill out this google form by 4/30/24 and contact our DRE at dre@uuch.org with any questions.

Special Music Event to be Hosted by UUCH!

This Saturday, April 27, at 10:45 am, UUCH will host a unique music event in our sanctuary. A Jazz Mass composed by Keith Taylor, well-known community jazz pianist and an Instructor at UAH, will be presented by a ten piece jazz band of professionals led by Keith, along with an experienced group of choral singers, led by Dr. Royce Boyer, Professor of Music Emeritus at UAH. This will be in some respects a traditional music service, though not a worship service. Piano prelude starts at 10:45 and the Mass/concert at 11:00 am. Admissions at the door of $20 will be added to the UAH student jazz scholarship fund. All students may attend free, and for UUCH members and friends the $20 is a suggested donation.

The event will also include a Beatles song, a sacred harp hymn, poetry, and hymns from our hymnal--a very eclectic assortment of music! Attendees are requested to bring a small bell to embellish some of the music selections.

Contact chorus and church member Tim Miller or the church office for more information.

Author to Visit Book Discussion Group!

Dr. Matthew Croasmun, an author of the book Life Worth Living, will speak to the discussion group Sunday April 28th at 1:30. The group would like to invite anyone in the church community (and beyond) to attend as our guest. The presentation and discussion will take place in the fellowship hall or in the sanctuary, as logistics allow.

Circle of Candles

Bridgit lit a candle of Joy: "In spite of several health challenges, I made it to my birthday #66! I am so grateful and delighted to celebrate it with my husband. We ate good food, and listened to the piano duo Anderson and Roe."

Little Food Pantry

Signups for the LFP have slowed to a trickle unless you are filling it without signing up in the signup genius. It’s hard to know. Our LFP is a much needed service to the neighborhood. Fill it with nutritious foods. Folks rarely take garbanzo beans or lentils (even though they are nutritious). Let’s try to keep the pantry going! Please, if you are able to fill it up, please note your name in the Genius. Also, you can bring non perishables to church, as there are baskets. A big thank you to all who do contribute!
