CARS, CAKES, COOKIES, CAMP

If you ask 10 people what youth camp is about, you will more than likely get 10 different responses. Our experiences color our perception. I can easily imagine that some of those 10 will have fond memories of camp: a bonding experience, a chance for growth, being out in nature in the summer, swimming in a lake. Others will have a vastly different memory: feeling awkward and left out, being too hot, being homesick. That in essence is the nature of life. We are all unique, and we all experience events coming from our unique perspectives.

There is also an answer about youth camp that you will get from those who put the camp on. For them, camp is an opportunity for discipleship, deepening relational ties, and most importantly encountering the Lord in a significant way. That’s the hope for a week away, that the richness of a relationship with the Lord would be on display and be desired by the students who attend. As someone who has both gone to youth camps and put them on, this is my prayer. Yes, camp is fun, and yes, camp teaches life skills (like making your bed or cleaning your room). But the real value of camp is the opportunity it affords students to hear the gospel, respond to it, put gospel truth into practice, and learn what it means and looks like to follow Christ. It’s a crucible and it’s a mighty useful one too.

So, this weekend, help our students get to Glorieta in June! We will have a car wash on Saturday from 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM. And we’ll have a cake fundraiser after service on Sunday. Bring your dirty car, take some cakes and cookies home, donate some money so kids can go to camp, and pray that they would leave that week on the right trajectory, with their sights set on Christ.

WOOD CUTTING FELLOWSHIP

APRIL 27, 2024

Our next Woodcutting Fellowship workday is on Saturday, April 27, 2024. We begin loading at 8:00 AM at the Woodyard, 5800 Signal Ave. NE.

If you haven’t participated before, we meet at 8:00 at the Woodyard at 5800 Signal Ave. NE, load trucks and trailers with firewood, and then deliver it to one of five different locations that we service as a ministry to those in need. We deliver to Navajo churches, Missions/Schools, and folks that supply firewood to people desperate for heating and cooking fuel.

God has given us the opportunity to work shoulder to shoulder for the benefit of his kingdom! We get to work together and develop new relationships in our own local body as well as providing others with God’s bounty to help in their survival and comfort, developing the opportunity for gospel conversations and blessing the greater body of Christ.

YOUTH CAMP FUNDRAISER

SATURDAY AND SUNDAY

The time for DSC Youth Camp is upon us yet again! Summer Camp, or as we call it around here, OneThing 274, is a wonderful opportunity for students to grow in the love for the Jesus or even come to know him for the first time. Psalm 27:4 is our banner verse for OneThing 274, because we want this next generation of believers to see that the greatest thing in all of life is God himself, whose presence is made fully available to us through the gospel of Jesus Christ. I invite you to participate in this vision by helping DSC Youth attend this year's summer camp as you participate in our annual DSC Youth Camp fundraisers.

Will be having two main fundraisers for Youth Camp: (1) a car wash and (2) cake for camp. We will be pairing these two together in one big Camp Fundraising Weekend—April 27 & 28. All proceeds from these fundraisers go directly to offsetting the overall cost of Camp.

So come get your car fancied, your cake's fill, and our camps funded!

Children who are entering kindergarten through students who have just completed 5th grade are invited to attend. You can register your children here or on our website.

You can participate in VBS by volunteering to serve in areas such as teaching, set up, clean up, check-in, or acting. Adults and middle or high school students can sign up to volunteer here or on our website. If you have any questions, please email Pastor Tate at tate@dscabq.com.

YOUTH CAMP | FOLLOWER

JUNE 17 - 24, 2024

The Bible makes one thing perfectly clear: Followers of Jesus are known for living a life of discipleship to Jesus Christ.

Discipulus is an old Latin word that describes the relationship between a young, immature, untrained individual and their master, from whom they learn the ins and outs of life. Following Jesus today means that we will seek to be disciples of Jesus Christ. Yet, coming to Jesus as his disciples requires some things; it means some things for us, costs us some things, and guarantees a particular blessing for us too.

We will be led by our camp speaker, Jay Leibold, to spend this week focused on this one thing: being faithful followers. Come and be Jesus’ disciple. Come and see what he has done for sinners. Come and see God’s true king, God’s true man. Come and see true humanity on display. Come and submit to this king, align your life with him, and believe in him. Trust him with all of your life.

And if you've been to OneThing before, you know we'll run around a little too!

Set in the lower Rocky Mountains, Glorieta has a lake, mud pit, hiking trails, a gym, and more. We’ll also have group games, so bring your A-game! With five days of camp, you’ll have plenty of time to explore, rest after a hard school year, hang out with friends, and make new friends.

Registration is live! The cost will be $360/participant (before fundraisers). Registration includes the baseline cost required from Glorieta Adventure Camps, a camp t-shirt, meals, snacks, a camp booklet, a book, a welcome bag, and five sermons.

Register now, and after fundraisers, you’ll receive a refund based on the amount generated during fundraisers that you participate in. If cost is a prohibitive factor in coming to camp, there are scholarships available. Please email Ben Hobbs to request financial assistance. We want to do everything we can to get you to camp. In addition to the two fundraisers, you can also offset the cost by writing to friends and family and asking them to sponsor your trip with suggested amounts—$20, $50, $100, etc.

BIBLICAL THEOLOGY WORKSHOP FOR WOMEN

SATURDAY, MAY 11, 2024

PRICE INCREASE MAY 5, 2024

Do you ever read the Bible and have a sense that there is a deeper meaning or significance that you can’t quite figure out? Or do you sometimes wonder why others are able to draw something out of a passage of Scripture that you didn’t see until they pointed it out? If so, we hope you’ll make plans to come to a Biblical Theology Workshop for Women, hosted at DSC on Saturday, May 11, 9:00 AM - 3:30 PM.

This workshop is for those who are new to the Bible as well as those who have been studying it for a lifetime--and everyone in between. Over three sessions, Bible teacher Nancy Guthrie will lead participants in reviewing the key events of the Bible’s story and the major sections of the Bible, with the aim to increase our Bible skills so that rather than being bored or intimidated by our Bibles, we’ll become more intrigued by them.

You can register here or online at our website or app. For more information, please email Brandy Beck at brandy@dscabq.com.
