SHABBAT WITH FRIENDS SPRING SHABBATON-RETREAT

Truchas, New Mexico

Friday after noon, April 25-Sunday morning, April 27, 2025

On Wednesday, February 26th, we will announce details about the retreat, the program, and how to register. This retreat will be intergenerational and kid-friendly.

Deep in the heart of New Mexico, Truchas Peaks Place retreat center is nestled high in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, with panoramic views of the Truchas Peaks, the Jemez Mountains, and the Pedernal, made famous by Georgia O’Keeffe’s paintings.

At the midway point between Santa Fe and Taos, we are easily accessible from either city, yet affords the peacefulness and pristine natural surroundings of a secluded retreat. We are part of Spanish colonial village Truchas, settled in 1754 and now a vibrant community of locals of Hispanic origin, artists, and craftspeople.

From last Friday night, Shabbat Imprints shares a Lecha Dodi melody that originates from the Modzitz Hasidim. Thanks to Judah Horowitz for turning me onto this infectious melody. Below is a video recording by two cantors singing it. We sang the 2nd melody you can hear at 3:15 minutes into the recording.

Shabbat Imprints

A Sonic Memory from the SWF Musical Shabbat Gatherings of the past weekend.

A Modzitz Lecha Dodi

Shabbat Imprints is a new feature in our newsletter. We share a melody that we sang at a recent Shabbat with Friends Musical Gathering.

Shabbat Imprints presents an opportunity to listen and learn from the Sabbath songbook and to share these precious melodies at your own Shabbat table with friends and family.

In Appreciation

A special thank you to our Shabbat hosts this past weekend: Suzanne Savage of Bernalillo and Mya Kass of Tesuque Village. Thank you for creating such warm and inviting Shabbat spaces.

We would also like to express our gratitude to Deborah Newberg for helping to setup and clean up after the Tesuque gathering and inspiring us to move our bodies to ancient melodies as part of the musical program. Thanks to Michelle Sauceda for similar support at the Bernalillo gathering. Thanks also to Sarah Burghauser for stepping up to sing with the Ensemble and sharing her love of Shabbat songs.

Thank you to everyone that brought food to nourish us on Shabbat and to SWF board members, Joy Rosenberg and Ethan Stone for shuttling folks to and from Mya's place in Tesuque village on Shabbat afternoon.

I also want to call attention to my virtual assistants from around the world: Maria Lecerio (Phillipines), Victoria Nwokoye (Nigeria), and Raffi Listman (Boston, MA) who do amazing work behind the scenes for our events and the newsletters and website.

Thanks to all of you who support Shabbat with Friends with your donations, your time, and your enthusiasm. I am uplifted by your joyous support.
